Penny and Pippin had found an area that seemed unoccupied from what they could see. It was a little neighborhood and they took shelter in one of the old abandoned houses. Penny carried Mama inside while Pippin went around and found some partially moth eaten blankets throughout the house to lay Mama Williams down on. They didn't trust any of the furniture since it probably had bugs in it and was close to collapsing so they just laid the blanket on the floor and laid Mama down on it. She was still unconscious so while Penny checked her for other injures while Pippin checked around to make sure there was no danger inside the house. She poked her head in each of the rooms and froze in the bathroom when she saw the shower curtains moving. She held her gun pointed and waited until whatever was moving showed itself. The curtain was old and falling apart and covered in scorch marks which was bizarre to see. Pippin wondered what the scorch marks were from and she found out when a lizard about the size of a butter knife quickly crawl out of the tub to the floor. It was a pretty blue lizard with beady black eyes and long claws. Pippin slowly lowered her gun and chuckled quietly.
She slowly crouched and smiled softly. "Well aren't you pretty..." she mumbled and the lizard watched her. It tilted it's head and Pippin slowly sat down in the doorway to show she wasn't any harm. It slowly crawled to her but it looked like it's focus was on something by her knee. When she looked down there was a little bug by her knee. Right as she was about to shoo it away a little puff of fire engulfed the little bug and the lizard ran and ate the burnt bug. It's mouth was smoking and Pippin just sat there frozen while watching the happy little lizard crawl onto her knee. "You are not a normal lizard-" she gently went to tap it's head with her finger but then quickly pulled away cause it felt hot. "That explains the scorch marks..." she muttered and let the friendly lizard climb up onto her shoulder. She tried to move it off but it just climbed right back up again so she decided to leave it before it tried to burn her. Pippin slowly got up and finished her check around the house before going back to Penny and Mama. "She ok?" Pippin asked and Penny nodded. "At most a concussion, shocking nothing is broken" Penny told her and Pippin nodded and sat down next to them.
Mama groaned and slowly brought her hand to her head but Penny quickly took her hand. "Don't touch-" she warned and Mama Williams slowly opened her eyes. "Where are we now?..." she mumbled and closed her eyes again to block the sunlight that was hurting her eyes. Pippin got up and closed the curtains to block out the sun but there was some holes in it so not all was blocked out. Pippin just stood in front of the window to block out the rest of the sunlight. "We're in a little neighborhood away from that monster deer" Penny explained and Mama slowly nodded but quickly stopped due to the pain in her head. "Try not to move too much, it's going to hurt if you do" Penny warned and Mama just laid there. She eventually tried to slowly sit up and Penny helped her. Mama Williams then leaned back against the old couch that creaked but she ignored it. "Pip do you have your canteen baby?..." Mama asked and Pipping handed it to her. She slowly sipped it then set it down again. "We're going to stay here for the day ok? You need to rest" Pippin told her and Mama did not try to argue.
After awhile Penny finally noticed the lizard on Pippin's shoulder. "How long have you had that?-" Penny asked. "For about thirty minutes, why?" She told her and Penny shrugged. "Is it a normal lizard or does it do something weird like the deer and it's face opening-" she asked and Pippin let the big blue lizard crawl into her hands. "Oh no this is not a normal lizard-" she held it as smoke started slowly come from it's mouth again. "Oh what the hell-" Penny mumbled and and tiny ball of fire blew into the air and disappeared. "Holy!-" Penny went wide eyed and Pippin nodded and the lizard climbed up her arms and onto the top of her head to sleep. "I'm guessing another mutant-" she told Penny who was still stunned. "Can you two quiet down a little..." Mama mumbled and both the girls apologized to her then continued their conversation but was talking quieter. "And it's friendly?-" Penny whispered and Pippin nodded carefully, not wanting to let her new lizard friend fall. "I mean it hasn't tried to kill me so I guess it is-" she whispered and Penny nodded.
Pippin got some wood together and started a little fire in the backyard to cook a squirrel that she had caught the day before. The lizard was the one who actually lit the fire which made things a lot easier for Pippin. Penny and Mama were still inside. Mama was in and out of sleep and Penny was just monitoring to make sure she was ok. They planned to stay there until the next day and depending on how Mama Williams is feeling in the morning would determine whether they left the safety of the little house or not. But for not it was time to take a day to rest and plan on how they would try to find the boys.
