Conspiracy

"These are your mother's records, everything you're looking for is right in there. I hope you find her soon." The psychiatrist gave me a file and I looked into it.

"So, what did you find?" Mabel asked.

"According to the records, my mom left this rehab early January last year, that was exactly the time she had contacted me, saying that she's back home."

"Yeah, that's right." The psychiatrist nodded.

"What I don't understand is why she chose to disappear. Are these the only details you have got on her?" I asked wanting more, some hint perhaps where she might have gone.

"Yes, that's all. At that time, another psychiatrist was handling her situation so I won't actually know if there's more you need to know." She was quick to respond and I had my doubts about her especially the way she was reluctant to help us earlier.

"Where's she if I may ask?"

"She's dead." She muttered.

"Wtf!" Mabel hissed.

"How come?" I was beginning to think that she was actually lying to my face. It didn't make sense how my mother would suddenly vanish and her doctor also die. I was made to believe that the center was involved in my mother's disappearance. Maybe, she wasn't the one who had contacted me months ago. My mother was perhaps kidnapped and taken to hostage by someone powerful who made sure no traces were left behind. The only person who had answers was Dad because he always had rich clients at his disposal. He was a business man but I now felt the urge to dig deeper, he surely had something under his sleeves.

"She succumbed to liver cirrhosis while under observation abroad. Her family resides there and we only got the news of her sudden demise two months ago. She has been dead for a while now."

"I see." I mumbled and before I could utter any more word, an old woman barged in demanding for her attention.

"Excuse me girls, I have other matters to take care so if you don't mind..."

"Let's go Mabel." I stood up dragging her along.

"What the heck!" She screeched.

"She lied, I have reasons to believe that she knew were coming, that's why she was so prepared to feed us with lies."

"I thought as much. So what now?"

"Get to the precinct, maybe have the police search for her." I blurted out because if I had to find a lead, I needed back up to figure out if it was really a conspiracy and who was the mastermind.

"We will definitely know the truth if someone tries to prevent you from finding your mom. You know all these feels like a movie, a crime thriller. I hope someone doesn't come after you." She sighed fearfully.

"Why did I not think of this?"

"Meaning?"

"Could it be that my father's mistress is involved?"

"Come to think of it, she may have wanted to eliminate her so that she can be officially your Dad's wife. I know how desperate Mistresses can get...don't underestimate her, you might find something interesting that will make you want to strangle her."

"Her daughter breaths fire, she has zero prospects. I won't be surprised if she turns out to be just like her mother. I hate it when someone looks much like my Dad." I sneered when I thought of Sara.

"You're family is fucked up big time."

"It's Dad's fault that mom ended up being a psychopath. It sucks, it really does." I clenched my fists seething with anger.

"Good luck tomorrow. When I'll consider having kids in future, hope you'll be there to look after them. You gotta a big heart despite everything your mother made you go through, you're the strongest human being I know."

She patted me lightly and I nodded silently taking heed of her words.

"Thanks girl, how lucky I am to have you in my life. You never dropped me like Lolita." I gave her quick hug.

"And talking of Lolita, I head that she might not be able to conceive in the future. Her womb was removed because she had done several abortions. She had to choose between her life and having a baby."

"That's tragic! I'll never wish that on anyone but it is what it is. She screwed big time."

"Payback is a b*tch."

"For sure it is." I muttered.

"Let's get the hell out of here. Our answers lie out there, we'll find your mom in no time." She at least gave me a push. Life was still trying to pull me down when I was just getting back on track.
