Last step

The wilderness of monsterverse always has danger present in every corner.

At one moment it would be tranquil as still water, whereas in another moment a battle royal will flare in similar spontaneity to that of solar flares on the surface of the sun.

Every being on this plane is either fated to be a hunter, or be hunted.

Just like the monster that had just won the battle of predators.

Bringing its jaw shut after loosening it for the snake's head to drop after it had quietened its indignant dying scream, the now only alpha of the forest shouted its victory roar to the sky.

Announcing to all the animals that inhibit 'his' land that from now he was the sole king of the jungle.

It had been a tough fight, but dino had come out as the victor, 'he' had prevailed.

Dino had been inhibiting this jungle with anaconda for a while now. It was past the time when dino would go to anaconda's territory to battle it out, to finally decide who the only alpha of this jungle will be.

It was a hot head behavior from dino's younger days. But now dino didn't usually seek a fight with the snake, and it had been a long time since dino fought someone of equal strength.

Most of the time now he hunted beast lesser than him. They were easy catch and also don't waste too much energy.

Even though dino had not fought for some time now, it did not forget the basics. In the wild, no matter how safe it looks you should always be aware of any new enemy, so having sufficient reserves was primal for long term survival where any and all weaknesses will be exploited.

This time he didn't have any other option; the snake had left its territory and had encroached on dino's land.

Which was suppressing as the snake typically never left its nest. Yet this time it had crossed its land to hunt on dino's side of the forest.

And on top of that, it looked sufficiently angry, as if it had been provoked.

No matter the case, now it was dead and soon to be his meal… or not.

As dino brought its head down to take a bite out of its defeated foe, a shadow sneaked behind him, ruffling its danger sense.

And as the perfect example that no matter the time, the predators have certain sense of caution to their surroundings, dino immediately swung its tail at its assailant.

The assailant obviously was Lucian that until now was hiding and watching the result of his plans. The fight that resulted from him having goaded the snake to attack the dino.

The fight was difficult and rough, at the end of which though the snake had lost it had done a nasty work on dino here.

So when he felt the beast's cautiousness was as low as it could get, he struck from behind. As they say you know, always watch your back when you bend down in public, you don't know when someone will creep up to you.

Lucian raised his left hand to block the tail all the while going towards the motion of the tail to lessen the impact.

But his right hand which had struck the dino with the stone awl was always his goal.

The stone awl was black and both sides of it were sharp. He had found it some time ago, and from then he always carried it with him.

After all his time here, fighting day and night for his life, he had earned himself a lot of experience.

He had started using all his advantages over the rest in the monsterverse.

And till now what he has found helped him most is his intelligence.

He had capitalized it to not only survive, but also hunt a lot of beasts.

With all kinds of tricks and traps, he had turned into a very skilled hunter.

The newest preys to his schemes were the dino and anaconda pair.

Lucian slid through the ground, tanking the hit from dino with little to no harm. In exchange, he had left a deep gash on his back that sure was giving a hell a pain if its screams were any indication.

When dino was shouting in pain with the awl still stuck to its back. Lucian took a run into the thick of the trees. Catching this from its side vision, dino turns and follows with an enraged roar.

"Rawr."

'Yeah, follow me.' A grin splits Lucian face when he heard the dino's roar as it followed him.

Taking a few more fast steps in he suddenly takes a sharp turn.

Dino following closely behind accelerates not to lose Lucian in the chase.

And when he reached the place Lucian had taken the turn, a strong thick trunk slams into dino with full force.

From a different angle, you would be able to see Lucian as he swung the trunk into the fast approaching dino.

He had seen the trunk when he had come running to spectate the fight.

Quickly following in while the dino is still a little buzzed, Lucian jumped on it and reached behind its back for his awl.

He feels it by the tip of his claws and then grabs at it with his out stretched arm. As he then attempts to pull it out of the dino's back, the beast butts it head hard into Lucian, resulting in him losing his hold on the awl making it fall to the ground.

Dino then struggled fiercely to push Lucian away or role to push him to the ground.

In that locked position, they wrestled for a while but Lucian knew that this would not help him as, it will either turn into a long brawl before either of them tires out or dino will capitalize on one of his mistakes and reverses their position.

'No way in hell I'm going to be the bottom. Everybody knows what happens to bottoms.'

So, he takes advantage when dino pushes him to jump back, and create some distance between them.

When both the beast get onto their feet, dino roars at Lucian, but he just gives it a hard stare with his now a bit more refined combat stance.

What attract his attention though are not the sharp teeth dino was showing off but his awl that shined a bit behind the dino.

Lucian spreads his arms to his side getting the dino's attention and slightly moves to his side when the dino closes its mouth.

He to follows its moments but the other direction, Lucian is not the karate kid that the dino will copy his moments. It moved to the other side as they both were moving in a circle observing if somebody does anything suspicious.

When they had almost completed a half circle, Lucian reached near where previously dino was standing.

He was doing this obviously to get closer to the awl not to perform some ritual dance with the dino.

After reaching a comfortable distance, Lucian immediately rushs to the awl leaving his back open to the dino. Looking at which, dino roars and runs towards him with its jaw wide open.

"Rawr."

Lucian dived to reach the awl the clutched it and in flash turns just when dino was nearing him. He knells on one knee and thrusts the awl in the chest of dino.

With the help of dino's own running momentum Lucian to impaled the awl further into it.

The dino is still not dead, though on its dying breath.

Lucian knows it was a critical time when a beast just might explode all its power, so he quickly takes the awl out and drives it with both hand to the skull of dino.

once, twice and on the third in pierced into the skull.

Ending it had the last step of the hunt.
