The big bat and her minions started a fire tornado with Lucian at its centre.
Small stones started levitating. And as the heat increased very fast it turned the ground into magma.
The temperature had risen to unprecedented levels.
Lucian had no idea what he had turned into was the god Valahir.
But he knew that had an innate connection to ice just like how he felt more comfortable in cold and the obvious giveaway was turning into a giant ice bear.
So he was not much of a fan of the rising temperature. If he was in modern society he would have destroyed all human settlements for global warming.
He was expecting to become uncomfortable, but the sense of suffocation took him by surprise.
Then he realized what the bat was aiming for, it wanted to burn the oxygen around him.
He didn't know how the bat could have figured this out.
"You a science student bro."
Lucian had not yet left the habit of breathing. He knows that his body does not require it, but it was not so easy to leave something that he had been subconsciously doing. Even habits that we can consciously resist stick to us like tar to the road, then how could a subconscious habit be that easy to leave.
It's not that he had not made any progress. When he goes into hyperfocus during hunts, he all but stops every movement of the body. That includes breathing. It was one of the ways he has been able to achieve stealth even under the beasts that are so attuned to their surroundings.
But the other times the urge comes naturally to him, like the phone to hand. His want for breathing is like the want to read just one more webnovel chapter. It is not important but you just can't stop. (An: I feel like I'm projecting.)
He has been launching lightning from his hand but seems to be doing no amount of damage.
He falls to his knees with the loss of breath.
"I have to increase the power before it turns to a direction I can't get back from."
Bringing his hands together above his head, he initiates a move that concentrates lightning around his fists. He then slams them down to the ground.
*THRRR*
With strong momentum, a huge blast of lightning spreads with him in the center. As the bats had also circled with him in the center they were all blasted away.
Except for one, the bat that had been leading all the others till now had tried taking advantage when the lightning had stopped.
So, it dove to Lucian in order to attack but got the strongest impact of the lightning blast for being the closest one to it.
All the bats were now out of the magma circle leaving only Lucian who was on his knees and the leader bat that had been severely injured.
Lucian was not a new hunter but a seasoned one. So, he knew when was the right time to attack.
So, fighting his body he jumped at the bat and slapped it with his paw when it tried to be airborne again.
Bears had already been one of the strongest creatures even in his old world. Like how an adult bear's slap could break a cow's spine.
So you could imagine how much of a damage Lucian's slap must have done.
After slamming her to the ground Lucian cooled for a moment. He had just performed an ultimate attack that he was not yet that accustomed to, he couldn't regulate his energy so it took more than he wanted it to.
Even when he was on his knees, hand to his side. His back was straight as a scale, and he never let the leader bat who was not out of the circle away from his sight.
Sitting inside the molten ground, looking at them with his fierce eyes. Lucian didn't look less than a demon to the bats.
He was expecting the rest of the bats to jump at him to attack. And a few of the small bats as if knowing he was expecting were getting ready to swarm him. Even though they knew that this might just be their end, they all looked determined enough to face it head on.
But then to his and most of the bat's surprise, the bat that had looked to be the second biggest after the leader bat slapped at his kind and started screaming at them like he was stopping them from attacking him.
"Scree."
Thinking that he had misunderstood and that they were probably making a new strategy Lucian tried to bring in all his energy to dive back into the fight before they get the chance to.
But he stopped all his moments being surprised and confused by the later action of the bat.
It was sending all the smaller ones to the back and brought the elder bats towards their fallen leader, who was still down from the slap.
The bat than with the help of the other elder bats started pulling along their leader towards him.
At first, the leader bat struggled, but after the bats pulled her screamed at her, she looked at the small bats and then at a corner place at the back and stopped her struggle.
He knew that there were more bats over there and from what he had already sensed, they seemed very weak so he had not concentrated on those bats that were hiding.
When they reached the magma border, the 15 or so bats had thrown her into the circle. Then the bats stayed there as they bowed at him.
Lucian stood up and walked to the leader bat, while the bats that were outside the circle just watched. While the elders were just standing there with their heads bowed, some of the smaller ones were getting agitated.
While still being cautious of their presence, Lucian looked at the bat near his feet.
He confirmed after looking at it up close, that she was the most beautiful bat he had ever seen.
Her skin glowed with a weak holy blue, and her wings like all the others of this variant of bats connected till her legs but hers were not stretched tight but had a comfortable spread to them. And unlike the rest who had 2 or at most 3 colours at the seams of their wings, the leader bat had a lot more colours for hers. He also noticed how her belly was glowing a dim red.
The only other creature that he had encountered in the monsterverse that looked as pretty as her, was Mothra.
But bear knows no mercy.
He picked her by the head and was going to crush her.
All the smaller ones were now screaming in agitation. And when one got impatient and jumped coming towards him, the elder bats caught it and tore the small bat. Before it even reached the periphery of the circle.
"Scrrr."
As if she knew what was happening even while her head was facing him, the leader bat started screaming.
It didn't seem to be her anger towards the elders that he was clearing feeling from her but an address to the minion bats.
He saw as all the bats now had stopped and while some looked at her like the elders now most had their heads bowed down.
But then something that had given him the biggest surprise till now had happened.
A small mental wave had come off from the leader bat. It was astonishing, as this was the first time he had encountered someone other than Mothra and himself to have access to mental energy.
When he probed the wave trying to see what it was. Because it was not like a regular message that he and Mothra used to communicate.
He had never felt anything like this. It did not look like any language at all, but he could still understand it.
When he concentrated more deeply, he confirmed that it looked less and less like a speech and more like a declaration of a fact. And it felt like nature itself was asserting this with the bat as a medium.
"I am your Queen."
The minion bats now had all but calmed and bowed towards the leader bat, and even the elder bats who had been nonchalant till now looked horrified but they too couldn't stop themselves from bowing.
Lucian was now looking at the leader bat in predicament. All he wanted to do now was crush the head of the bat, ending this. Then he can go look for Mothra's egg.
"Haa, don't make me regret it," Lucian said with a sigh.
