CHAPTER 22

　　On a hot Monday afternoon, I got a call from my mum. She wanted me to come to California immediately because she found out that she had a kidney problem.

　　I knew I had to go home immediately. I had not been in California since I left, but over the years, I made sure that my parents and my younger one visited me in Los Angeles twice a year for one week. It was always during the holidays, and I would rent a short apartment and pay for their transport tickets.

　　Those were good times, but now I had to go to California. I didn't expect a sick woman to come and see me anyway.

　　I knew I would be gone for two months or more, and I was devastated to be away from Benjamin for that long. I had been seeing him for 5 months on the low. Apart from Angel nobody else knew about it, not even Sada. Angel hated Benjamin because she was aware he used to text Sarah as well.

　　"Be careful, Maddison," she would always warn me, but she kept my secret firm. She never told Sada or anyone about us.
