“It means something has changed,” Aliya says, her voice heavy. “I’m trying to figure out what. But it’s not easy.”

I’m too exhausted to ask her what she means.


The return to the Panther territory is a long one and I spend most of it, resting in Lucas’s arms. Aliya is convinced I managed to get ancient vampire blood in my system. I still don’t know how. I don’t know what a vampire looks like. All my knowledge comes from the stories I heard.
