My blood turns to ice as I watch Hilda be executed in front of me so ruthlessly. I’m not sorry for her death but to see Mara kill someone who supposedly her friend without a hint of remorse or hesitation is a terrifying thing.
Mara flicks her sword, effortlessly, sighing and shaking her head, “This would never have happened had that girl not tried to get into a confrontation with Hilda.”
That girl?
Is she referring to me?
I open my mouth and then realize she’s looking in Rina’s direction who looks frightened. Furious, I open my mouth to refute her claim but she just keeps going on, “Hilda should have known better but really Isabel, to allow your handmaiden to insult a noble lady is just too much. I know you’re adjusting but-”
“Mara,” There is a hint of warning in Damien’s voice.
