CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE
I watch the guards grab Mara who begins shrieking in anger, “I love you! How can you do this to me?! How can you choose that whore over me? She’s a traitor!”
“I think we both know that she isn’t a traitor,” Damien said, coolly. “But you are. You know the status of the Righ in my eyes and in the demon clan. And yet you attacked them. You harmed them.”
His hand tightens on my hips and his jaw is tight.
There is anger, yes. But there’s also a different kind of pain.
“Take her away.”
The guards, standing on the sides of the room, converge almost immediately and I see Mara’s mother give her a baleful look.
“Damien,” She lowers her head. “Don’t put the task of execution on Seth’s shoulders. I’ll do it myself.”
She was trying to spare her son the memory of executing his own sister but Seth spoke up, his voice grim, “I’ll do it.”
I watched Mara be dragged away and a part of me feels a little taken aback at how quickly Damien dealt with her.
