I take them out for an early dinner at an Asian restaurant that serves dishes from several countries. According to Gabby, I owed her comfort food after what I did earlier: scaring away that boy. I suppress rolling my eyes, but I tell her that a guy who gets scared easily from me—or any of the De Luca men–doesn't deserve her. There's no way in hell Gabby will be with someone who squeals like a bitch from a slight taunt.

Malia and Gabby become friends fast. It's interesting to watch them converse. I can tell that my niece genuinely likes Malia and vice versa. Gabby asks about her dancing and her mother while Malia asks about the books she likes to read. Gabby goes on about her favorite authors and genre, already promising Malia she'd lend her a book where the female main character is a dancer and whose love interest is a "hot billionaire".

"That sounds interesting. I'd love to read that," says Malia, her tone excited and curious.
