Making things count

The place was dark and the only thing we could hear were the soft whispers of an excited audience. The chills of stage fright started to set in as we stepped closer and closer to that stage.

I felt a touch on my shoulder and was a bit frightened but quickly realized it was just Gabriel.

"You wanted to be a drifter right?" He said with a smile.

I smiled back and nodded.

"This is your chance then."

He was right now this was more about clearing my name and getting Miya out of my hair now…it's time to make a name for myself.

"You lot ready?" Jerry spoke from the headsets we were given when we entered so that we could talk to our coaches mid game.

"Yup!" We all said in unison walking to the entrance of what will be the hardest torni of our lives.

"Then remember what you learned…and Haru try not to die too soon-"

I was offended-

"Seriously- don't die."

I ignored his words and stepped outside to the field in a burst of confidence.

The place was huge. It had the shape of a gladiator arena but it all looked hightech.

I looked at what's supposed to be the arena we fight in and it's just a small space with four pc's and a huge screen behind us so the audience could see.

"This place sure is huge.." I heard Miya say under her breath as she looked around.

"Not getting cold feet are you?" I teased her which I got rewarded for with a punch in the arm.

"Ouch-"

"Tom..you sure they're ready for this?" Jerry asked from the coach booth where all the coaches for each team stood to watch the game.

"Yeah I trust that they're ready.." Tom said as he watched on.

"You do have a lot of faith in them-" Jerry said with a smile turning his attention to the battle area as we got set up.

Tom nodded, not breaking eye contact with us.

The crowd went wild seeing Miya on our team and even some of the opposing team members had some sort of reaction to her being here.

"Miya's here…"

"This game is practically over-"

I heard the mutters in the crowd as we loaded up.

_______

Tom and the detective were in the same room talking about the tournament Tom gave the detective a hard time and eventually he just sighed and said,

"You see..Tom as I said before." The detective got up with his hands in his pockets.

"The higher ups caught wind of your situation and they ordered me to stop you."

Tom looked like he was already prepared to say something but the detective interrupted.

"I already asked them to give you a chance..to which they agreed."

"But you only have one chance.." He said taking out one arm and gave Tom a weird device.

"It's a device to sabotage the enemy team.. You only have one shot, don't waste it."

Tom throws it back to him and the detective catches it.

"I don't need it…" Tom turned to walk away but the detective grabbed his hand.

"Tom, think about more than your pride for once.."

"If you don't get this right..you'll be fired."

The detective places the device in his hands once more.
