Chapter 174: You’re In Good Hands

*Shelby*

Michael squeezed my hand as we sat in the waiting room of the fertility clinic. It felt a little like deja vu staring at the pictures of women holding their very pregnant bellies or their precious children with gauzy dresses billowing behind them. However, this time I wasn’t filled with a sense of devastation looking at these pictures, but instead a sense of hope.

"Astor," a woman in pale blue scrubs called out, and Michael immediately stood, grabbing my hand and helping me to my feet.

I was so grateful for the feeling of his hand in mine to keep my hands from shaking. In just under an hour, I would technically be pregnant, but whether or not I stayed that way was the big question hanging in the air.

We followed the woman down the hallway into a small medical room. She gave me a paper gown before leaving the room to allow me to get undressed. I sat anxiously on the paper-covered bed. Michael and I did not utter a word as we both waited for the doctor to come in.
