Chapter 7

It's Camp baby! Students of Hampton High were relieved that the long journey from Hampton High to Moore's creek was finally over. They got down orderly from the School bus, along with their luggage.

"Welcome Hampton. We've been expecting y'all. I'm Roberto Hughes - the Camp counsellor" Roberto said, addressing everyone.

"As y'all can clearly observe, all neccessities have been provided to ensure you spend a nice, comfortable one month here in Moore's creek" Roberto continued.

"Moore's creek is an amazing camp site, where the fun never goes away, despite rumors of it being haunted" Roberto said.

"So you mean this place is not really haunted?" A teacher asked.

"Of course it isn't. I actually don't believe in ghosts so, even if it was haunted, I wouldn't mind. Ha ha" Roberto laughed.

"Teachers, come with me. I have to tell you a few things privately" Roberto motioned for the teachers present to come with him.

Ashley turned to Luna Jenkins, who seemed to be overjoyed. Luna looked right back at her.

"This is camp, Ash. I can't believe I made it to camp!" Luna said.

"I know right? For a moment, I was scared you wouldn't make it. But then, I thought. What would camp be like without my only best friend? Apparently a big sack of boring shit. So I had to help you out" Ashley verbalized.

(A cute teenage boy approached them, as they spoke)

"Hi, do you know why we're waiting. I mean, like, no one said anything. And we've been here for like an hour" he asked, not certain who he was speaking to directly though.

Luna and Ashley attempted to reply him at the same damn time which was sick.

"Uhmm hi" They both said, looking at each other. They were all like, 'one of us should probably back off' But who was going to?

"Hi, I'm..." They both said, at the same time, looking at each other again.

"Okay, you are both weird. Sorry" the cute boy said, running away.

Luna watched as her one chance of having a conversation with a cute boy slipped from her fingers because she could not keep a cool head.

"I'm sorry Luna, I should have let you talk with him" Ashley apologized.

"No Ash. I'm sorry. I was so excited a cute dude walked up to us, and I let my happiness get the best of me. I shouldn't have insisted on talking to him"

"We're both sorry. Great! We can't let this happen again, yeah?"

"Of course Ash, we can't. If we ever get this kind of opportunity again" Luna said, chuckling.

(The Camp counsellor shows up)

"Hi Hampton High. I must commend y'all. I see a bunch of beauty and brains, which is an excellent combination. I need y'all to relax, we have a lot of sorting to do. I'd assign y'all your tents, which all have toilets and bathrooms, so you don't have to worry about anything. I have a record of y'all right here, so I'd be assigning you tents based on what I've got right here" Roberto explained.

Roberto assigned four students to one tent, four students of the same sex obviously. It took hours before the sorting was over, but then it was, and everybody had tents, and tentmates.

Somehow, Luna and Ashley got the same tents, and were tentmates, along with two other girls, who Luna and Ashley didn't give a fuck about.

Since it was already sunset, students were instructed to have rest, but they had other plans to make a campfire tonight.

Tristin got out of his tent to inform the Camp counsellor of their plans.

"Hi Mr. Roberto. I'm Tristin, the students representative"

"Please call me Roberto" he corrected, extending his hands for a handshake.

"Alright. Roberto. You instructed us to go to sleep, but it's just sunset"

"Which is the perfect time to go to bed, isn't it?" Roberto rhetorically asked.

"I know that, but we kinda had other plans, to uhmmm, have a campfire?"

"Campfire! No one informed me of that."

"Well, I am now." Tristin reminded.

"Don't be silly young man. I shoulda been told this earlier. I mean, I know campfires are part of this camping programme. But not today. It's your first day, y'all should have some rest"

"I must insist sir. This is a very important part of camping cherished by all students. In fact, some folks came to camp because of these campfires at midnight. It won't take long I promise. Just two hours, and we're done" Tristin insisted.

(A teenager walks up to them, looking confused)

"Where is your tent young man?" Roberto asked.

"Tent? Uhhh?" He said, panting heavily.

"Shane!? Man, I didn't know you'd show up bruh" Tristin yelled, recognizing the young man.

"Can someone tell me what the fuck is going on?" Roberto requested.

"Loosen up Roberto. This is Shane, one of us"

"Shane, why are you here?" Roberto asked.

"I had to take a bus, and hurry to this place. My mom asked me to come, so I could keep tabs on my younger sister. I know right, it sucks. But she's my mom. She still pays for my phone" Shane explained.

(Roberto glances at his records)

"You can't be here Shane. I don't see your name here, and besides, I've assigned everyone tents, and you're a bit too late for that, coz there isn't any left"

Shane runs his hands through his hair, breathes in deeply, trying to calm down. He couldn't lose his shit right here. He had to get a hold of himself, and his rage. He wasn't concerned about Luna, he just didn't want to waste his time, going to Moore's creek and coming back just for the fun of it. And he wasn't certain his mom would take it well, so he had to plead his way into camp.

"Look mister. I know my name ain't there quite alright. But you gotta let me in, I beg of you. Asides the fact that I'm here to babysit my younger sister, I also want to be in camp. I know its going to be an amazing experience, and I wouldn't want to miss it. What do you say mister?" Shane acted emotional.

"Okay, fine. But where would you live? All the tents are filled up"

"He can stay in mine. We're homies, and I'm pretty sure the other boys won't have a problem having Shane around" Tristin suggested.

"I don't think so. You can't exceed the four persons maximum" Roberto said.

"Who cares?! Let my dawg in okay. It's our comfort that could be affected, and we don't mind" Tristin uttered.

"Okay fine. Go in"

Shane leaped for joy, pretending to be happy. He walked up to Tristin, hugging and tapping him on his shoulders.

"Thanks man. I owe you one"

"You owe me a lot Shane. And, Roberto, please. Can we get on with our campfires now?"

Roberto sighed, expressing fatigue.

"Fine! Go on"
