“Where is Elijah?” Gabriel asked, stopping by one of the tall decorative vases that was near the exit. He looked around with a tense expression before locking his eyes on me. He didn’t smile or made any comments about my outfit or the fact that I was here with Chris or about… what happened in his home. He stared at me with complete focus, his heart slow and steady as his eyes shot left and right before returning to me. “Stella?”
“He’s safe,” I finally found my voice, straightening up. “For now. We’re leaving after tonight.”
“Leaving?” Gabriel raised an eyebrow and, for the first time, his focus faltered, replaced by panic. “Leaving where?”
“The country,” Chris replied instead of me as I strode to my side, glaring at Gabriel. “We only came to meet with my parents, but we are leaving in a few hours. Somewhere where he won’t find us.”
