Chapter 9

"I can't believe it, we've known each other since eighth grade. To think I was supposed to be at Shoreston married to the grocer around the corner, or was a carpenter? She tells him, showing her his drawings and the miniatures of the traps, while Anamali sketches a thoughtful smirk. They remain talking and after the meat is cooked, Aly takes Anamali out of the house, and they eat the meat together talking, the girl helps her friend to hunt some animals.

At dusk, she returns to her house, where her father was waiting for her. The day dawns and as she leaves the house she sees Logan talking animatedly with the twins Selene and Saline. Anamali goes to them and tells the alpha's son.

"Logan Muller, two hours wait for me at the entrance to the forest, I need to talk to you about some pack things." Logan nods.

Farkas and Jake laughed at Lunaris who was mad at them but whenever these moments came they stopped for a moment when they remembered Katherina, she looked at her friend not knowing what to say.

"Farkas? Are they…" Jake says, pointing to Anamali and Logan

After such words he leaves and Logan enters the house thoughtfully and ends up agreeing with his father, she was very different from both the wolves and the humans of the city.

Logan was waiting for Mali, but he wasn't alone, Selene and Saline were together and so was Jordan. The girl lets out a grunt in disgust.

They followed a path unlike any they had ever seen, only Anamali knew the place.

"Where will we go?" Saline asks because the place was dark because of the dense forest."

"A quiet place, I often run around here with Alysha while I help her with some hunting" she says shrugging her shoulders and looking back she finds the four of them looking around in fear.

"What was this?" Jordan asks going close to Anamali who laughs at the two

"A group of monkeys, they are territorial and that's why they are screaming, the territory is theirs" Mali says and the five young people walk and in a carelessness they fall into a hole, it looked like a trap, Saline hurt his ankle and Logan seems to have scratched his arm, nothing severe.

"Ouch! I think I sprained my ankle!" Saline screams in pain.

"Damn! We fell into one of Alysha's traps! She leaves it all the way and whenever we go out for a run we jump this hole." Anamali says.

Raindrops begin to fall as the air turns cold and young people watch Seline massage her sister's ankle, she works at the reserve hospital, she does the night shift. Saline was the one who went to the neighboring pack for fruit and vegetable swaps. Noises are heard and the five scared look up where wild roars approach, unconscious Mali grabs Logan's arm who holds her in an equally startled hug, a group of lionesses jumps over the hole and surround them as a growl causes whoever to start a fight, a wolf and a panther that after chasing away the animals transform. Marcus and Alysha look at the hole in surprise, Anamali and the heir there.

"Flea! How did you get there? You knew about the traps and even helped me mount it" Shouts to Mali

"But it doesn't mean I remembered it was here, I thought it was further on! Aly get us out of here, Saline twisted his ankle and I think we're on holidays when we get out of here" Anamali defends himself

"Just a minute, hey Marcus, help me get them out, we can use these vines, they're tough as rope." Alysha asks, and soon they're out of there, but all dirty and full of mud and dry leaves.

"Thanks, I think we should go back" Mali says looking at the twins but Logan intercedes.

"No, Jordan can get back with the twins with Marcus' help and Alysha helps us along the way" He says and is surprised that everyone agrees.

Logan was enumerating with his cell phone the places that had holes, Alysha was soon distracted by movements ahead.

"Hide" she whispers, and they go to the middle of the bush where it would take to see them. A tall man was talking to an old man and Blackverus.

"The elder!" Logan whispers and the two agree and try to hear what they were talking about.

"You know you couldn't do both jobs at the same time, so I'll call Anamali and make a deal with her. Nobody knows who I am, Marcus, that wolf can help her with that. I have my business to attend to '' It was Leonardo.

"The matter is of interest to you too, don't you dare talk to me as if I were a child, before your parents thought of putting you in the world I was already here!" Blackverus, as usual, in a bad mood.

" I defend the elder, and you can ask the young people to go through the packs to get the ingredients, you know what will happen in a few weeks." Leonardo and the two agree to leave together by another path.

"We should go back, right? We don't want us to see" Aly says, and they follow her as quickly as possible. Mali enters the pack and leaves Logan with Jake, who was waiting for him for night training. The wolf enters the house, going to her room and making notes about what she heard, and then went down to eat together with her father while they talked about banal things and her father told her the news of the packs.

Alysha enters the house sitting down to eat, the two leave towards the meadow where panther shows the images on the camera that recorded the trap, someone sabotages her and sneaks out, and soon they appear and fall into the hole the man was hooded and then could not see clearly.

Logan arrives and sits next to her after Aly leaves, watching the moon in the sky even through the clouds.

"I don't know why you took the twins along Logan, if it was just the two of us I would have managed to avoid falling into that hole I think." She tells him.

"Are you jealous of them?" Logan laughs.

" I just don't want that in the end we have a womanizing alpha and a stuck-up, bossy and inconsequential Luna who will destroy the pack" Says and sighs lowering his tone "They didn't live here when it happened Logan, didn't you live here and I? I grew up listening to the rumors of how my mother had her internal organs ripped out by Vilky's father or Marcus' uncle, or how much everyone still grieves for their past losses... Or grew up seeing your father every night with a full moon looking out the window and howling waiting for my mother to return home. This has always been my home and I want the best for all of them, even the twins. Your father along with mine managed to bring peace to this pack alone, without their mates and without the help of the pack or neighbors because each had their own family to comfort."

"I'm trying to learn, but you're not willing to teach me, to explain to me Anamali, and you're only thinking about you. You wanted to be the alpha, Selene and Saline told me they were your friends, and you suddenly walked away, yes I did." I've been talking to people and everyone told me that it has something to do with Marcus and that you were hanging out with him. There was something that made you like this, and you don't even trust your own shadow to tell what happened. " he says and just listens to a Sigh.

"What started the war?" asks Logan.
