Maybe it’s time

Maybe it was the recent turn of events but she kept feeling like she wanted to be more happy. She didn't want to waste time on people who hurt her anymore. She didn't want to shed tears over people who don't deserve it. She wanted to spend her time with people who really cared. She made a promise, she was going to get better. When she was in the depths of hell, the people who were there for her the most showed up. They pulled her out of the darkness. Her boyfriend was there every step of the way. She called him and told him in a conversation they were having, "I guess… I'm ready to be happy now. I'm no longer afraid of falling down. I think it's time to move on without fearing of what might happen. It's time to smile again."

To this, he said, "can I come over?" He went to her house and once he saw her he gave her a warm smile. "I'll support you every step of the way. You make me happy by just standing there, you're the reason I'm so happy, so I want you to be feeling it as well."

She tried to stop the tears that were welling up in her eyes and said through sniffles, "I… want to be happy… for you. I want to repay everything you've done for me, along with everyone else." Her mom overheard their conversation and opened the door. "Are-what-you're serious?" Her mom stammered in a surprised but hopeful tone. She smiled through tears and said, "yes."

After that a few months passed by and you could tell that she was trying. She would have her moments but she asked for help. She had little slips here and there but she was becoming more and more happy. She wrote in her diary, 'I'm slowly becoming the person I should've been a long time ago. A few months ago I would look at a knife and say, "perfect way to kill myself." But now I want to live, I want to see the beauty of life. I think I found my meaning in life. My cats with me, my boyfriend is with me; I couldn't ask for more. Im still depressed and sometimes I feel like I'm drowning… but someday I'll learn how to swim, to make it to the top. '

One day she had a dream, her dad was there, holding her in his arms. "The past is meant to be learned from, you shouldn't live in it." She looked up and smiled softly. She hugged him tight and hummed in agreement.

Days passed by, then weeks, months, and years. She looked back on her last self and said, "life moves on and so have I."
