Chapter 58

ALEX

Before heading to Gabriela's house, I went to buy something for diner with grandma since we hadn't spoken in a while and I know she likes to talk, so I'm going to go to spend time with her.

I decided not to even go home since my mother would be there and I don't want to argue, I'm too tired of arguing with her, I love her, but at this moment, she's driving me crazy, especially because she didn't have the opportunity to meet Gabriela, although, she's missing out if she doesn't want to meet her.

Right now, I'm in front of the door of Gabriela's house and hesitating whether to send a message to her so she knew I'm here or ring. I decided to do the latter, and when the door opens, I see her mother who apparently wasn't expecting me at all, and at first, she looks at me badly, but soon her face changes to a calmer one.

"Hello, is Gabriela here?" I asked nervously. "Of course. Do you need anything from her Alex?" she asked seriously, which made it more than clear to me she's not happy to see me here. "She told me I could stop by, and well, here I am."

"Then come in." That did seem weird to me, as far as I knew, everyone hates me, but I don't say anything. When I enter the dining room, I can see everyone is looking at me, and that everyone is there including Marcos, Carlota and Ana, but not Gabriela, which makes me wonder what she's doing until I look at the next room, where she's looking in my direction, as if she's surprised.

"What is this guy doing here?" Gabriela's grandfather asked annoyed. "Grandpa, don't talk like that, he has every right to be here." Gabriela protested, "We'll see about that." He murmured without the intention of Gabriela hearing him. "Don't be stupid, Jose, and your daughter let him in, so the least you can do is respect him."

"It's not necessary ma'am, really, I understand. If you want, I can wait outside." I answered. The last thing I want is to make everyone angry. "It's not necessary, if Gabriela invited you, you can be there, sit next to Ana, make yourself at home."

"Thank Mrs." I said, a little stunned by her mother's kindness, "Call me Lara." Gabriela's mother said "As you wish." I went where she told me and Ana hugged me, before paying attention to her I smiled in Gabriela's direction and she returned it and turned towards the other table there where I noticed Rebeca is.

"Well, have you eaten yet?" Lara asked and I denied, "No" I said sincerely, "If you want, you can eat something, there's some of the food left over." Lara responded with a small smile on her face. "There's no need." I said, "Come on Alex, don't tell me you're shy now, because let me tell you, you don't seem shy if you came to my daughter's house." Angela replied, laughing.

"I'm not shy, but it's not necessary, I'll eat later." I assured even though at this moment I'm hungry, "Are you going to do the same as Gabriela who doesn't want to eat?"

As soon as Lara says that, I turn in the direction where Gabriela is, who's looking at me and I could see she knew what's going through my head. "First of all, I'm fine, so you can be calm, and second, if I didn't eat it's because I'm not hungry, really, so mom, can you please not worry Alex and sit down to eat?"

"I'm going to give Alex some food, or you're not even going to let me do that." Lara asked, "It's not necessary, I'm up, so I'll do it, stop worrying, you're always worried." Gabriela protested and her mother rolled her eyes. "Look who's saying it, but really, don't worry, I can do it."

"Mom…" Gabriela began and Lara denied "You are feeding your grandmother." The latter noted, "I just need the pills, mom, don't worry." While she's saying that, she began to move around the kitchen and I looked for a moment at Carlota, who also had a worried look, so I imagine things aren't as good as Gabriela tries to make the others believe, and that worry about her more than I already is.

The truth is we had a pleasant time, a little tense when Gabriela and her mother left to put Rebeca to bed, but Angela was there to make me not feel so bad, it's not I felt bad, just uncomfortable because of the looks of her grandfather.

It didn't take them too long to return and when they did, Ana went to Gabriela, she picks her up and sits in the place she's sitting a couple of seconds ago.

"Mom, I'm sleepy." Ana whispered and a small smile appeared on Gabriela's face. "Do you want to go sleep in bed?" She asked softly. "No, I want to be with you." The little one answered, "Then go to sleep, darling."

"Aren't you going to leave?" Ana asked and my girlfriend denied. I could see how the rest were looking at them, but Gabriela didn't seem to notice and let Ana get comfortable, she put her arms around her back to prevent her from falling and it's at that moment she noticed everyone's looking at her.

"Can I know what's wrong with you all?" Gabriela asked, "How Ana called you?" Lara questioned "Mom, what's up with that?" Gabriela asked "It's weird, we never heard her call you mom before, you were always Gabriela. Why is she calling you now?"

"It's a long story, but I still don't understand what the problem is." My girlfriend insisted, rolling her eyes. "No problem, just weird." Lara said, raising her hands, "Well, imagine when we heard her say that yesterday."

"My sister adores her, she's more of a mother than my mother is, after all, she doesn't seem to have any intention of coming back." Marcos said annoyed, "Don't talk like that about your mother, Marcos." Gabriela protested, "It's true Gabriela, she left and didn't come back, neither she nor my father, and honestly, it's better that way."

"I'm with Gabriela Marcos, you should not talk like that about your parents." Carlota supported "Hey, don't worry about me girls, I'm fine with that, both I and Carlos are, the only one who doesn't know is Ana" He said, looking at his sister, "They must have their reasons, Marcos."

"If they had, they would have told us, don't you think, Gabriela?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "Maybe, it's hard to say, you know better than anyone there are things that are complicated to say, so stop saying that about your parents because I wouldn't want to get angry, not with your sister in my arms."

"Ok, I won't talk about them anymore." We continued talking about everything a little and I could tell the atmosphere is no longer as tense as when I arrived. Of course, I rarely took my eyes off Gabriela, more than anything because she looked beautiful and seemed like one of those mothers who did everything for their child. Seeing her like this I knew she would do whatever it took to protect our children in the future, love them more than anything in the world and with that image in my head it's a wonder I'm not drooling right now.

"Is something wrong, love?" Gabriela asked with a smile on her face. It is at that moment I leave my perfect world with Gabriela to notice her, with that sparkle of curiosity in her eyes. "No, there's nothing wrong with me, why?"

"The look on your face, we're not stupid, you know Alex?" Carlota said, suggesting something that's not at all what was going through my mind. "Carlota…" Gabriela began. "I'm not saying this out of harm, Gabriela, and you know it, I just can't imagine what was going through his head, well, maybe I have an idea."

Carlota's face changed to a perverted one, or that's what it seemed to me, but if that was what she was thinking, it was far from reality. "Nothing like what you're thinking happened, Carlota! "How does that even cross your mind?" Gabriela asked, terrified she's saying that. "Do I have to explain it to you or can you get an idea?"

"You have to explain it to me, but at another time, not this time." My girlfriend said, rolling her eyes. "I don't think I'm going to say something the rest don't know, well, apart from Ana." Carlota responded, laughing, "Don't even think about it because I'll throw the glass at you if necessary, you know I will."

"Ok, ok, I'll explain it to you another time." We continue talking for a while longer until I notice Carlota is looking at Gabriela attentively, and that's weird, but I guess it's because something's going through her mind, so I decided it's better to ignore her and pay attention to the conversation.
