Surprise To See Alex Again

Lizzy POV

When I got home, I kept wondering what had happened between Alex and Elisa. I think there is something wrong. Why would Elisa's boss be ready to give me a whopping sum of 60,000 dollars just to get to Elisa? I will need to find out about it before exposing Elisa to any danger. But that sum of money could change my life.

Why does he want me to call him in the evening? Does he want me or does he want to have me in bed? Elisa told me some time ago that her boss has been showing her great affection.

I took my phone and started searching for any contact that knows about Elisa. As I searched, I came across Helen's phone number. Helen was also Elisa's friend. So I decided to call her.

"Hi Helen, good evening. How was your day?"

"Very fine Lizzy."

"Please, I have been trying to reach Elisa but her phone number is not connecting. Please, do you have any other means to reach her or do you have any of her family phone numbers?"

"Hmm… I will get back to you. I know someone that knows her mom's number."

"Fine. When will I get that number?"

"I will give you a call as soon as I get her mum's number."

"That will be fantastic. I'm hoping to hear from you."

I ended the call. I waited and waited, but I didn't hear from Helen. I decided to wait until the next day.

Early the next day, my phone rang as I was about to leave my room for the bathroom. I walked up to the phone and saw it was a call from Helen.

"Good morning, did you see my message?" She asked.

"No. Let me check."

"I sent you Elisa's phone number."

"Thanks so much," I hung up the call to check my message. Then I saw the number and immediately called the phone number. It rang at first and no one picked up the call. Without wasting time, I called again. This time, Elisa's mom picked up the call.

"Hi, good morning. This is Lizzy, Elisa's friend. Please can I talk to her?"

There was murmuring in the phone background. And after a while, the phone was handed over to Elisa.

"Hello, Lizzy."

"Elisa… where have you been? I have been trying your number. I hope all is well?"

"I'm…doing fine."

"You sound cold, what's happening?"

"My mum is sick and there are some things that are going on in my life that I need to fix."

"Don't worry. I will be there for you. What about your boss Alex?"

"Alex? I no longer work there. I'm at my mom's place right now. This is my priority. She is seriously sick."

"I hope nothing went wrong between you and Alex'?"

"No. I just quit. Once my mum's health has been restored, I will come over."

"Is there anything I can do to help? I don't like the way you are sounding." There was silence, then I could hear some sorrowful sounds.

"Are you crying? Talk to me. Aren't we colleagues and friends?"

"I need money for my mom's health. I don't want to lose her."

"Oh! Sorry. Be strong. I will get back to you later today."

Elisa couldn't reply again. All I heard was the sound of weeping.

"It's going to be okay," and then the call ended.

I need to assist Elisa. She had been a nice friend. As I was about to drop the phone on the table, I heard a knock on the door. Mum and Dad were still in their room.

"Who is that?" I wondered within my heart and went to the door. I was still putting on my nightgown when I opened the door.

It was an absolute shock. It was Alex.

"Sir," I said in disbelief. "You came to my house so early. I hope…"

"Hope what? I hate people who don't keep to their word. I gave you my card to give me a call. What stopped you from giving me a call?"

He folded his hands and waited for my response.

"Sir, it's complicated. You will not understand."

"I thought you were a nice person I could trust. Just a simple test, and you failed completely. He turned and wanted to leave. I ran to his front and stood in his way. He was angry.

"Please, I will make up for it, I promise. Believe me. Also, I will take you to Elisa's mom's house tomorrow. I promise."

"Tomorrow? No. There is going to be a party at my family's house tomorrow. Let's make it on Sunday."

"Fine, I will do that."

"What are your plans for today?"

"I'm getting ready to go to work," I replied.

"When are you closing from work?"

"Today is Friday, I close early. By 3 PM, I am done."

"I hate anyone who doesn't keep to their promise. I told you I will expand your boutique. I can give you the entire money now if you want it."

"Why can't I take half of this money and give it to Elisa for her mom's health?" I quickly thought.

"Are you serious about the money?" I reacted as if I didn't believe him at first.

"I will."

"Hmmm…" I hit my fingers together.

"Is there anything wrong?" He asked.

"I needed to pay for some goods online. But the money with me will not be enough. If I don't pay today, then I will be on Monday. But I wish I could pay it before the end of today."

"So how much do you want for now?"

"Let's say $20,000. That will be enough for now."

"Lizzy, money is not an issue. I can transfer the money to you now. I want to discuss something with you later today. Come to my house when coming from work. Then text me your account number. On my way home, I will transfer the money to you."

"I will do that, Sir. Please can I go in and start preparing for work? I will definitely come to your place. In fact, I will give you a call when coming."

"Okay," he turned toward his car and left while I rushed in to take my bath. Before going into the bathroom, I quickly texted him my account number. I will send Elisa that money to help her. If the money is not enough, I could persuade Elisa to ask for assistance from Alex. He will be willing to give her. He is a good man. I can see it from the way he interacted with me. I entered the bathroom to take my bath and before coming out, I received a credit alert. I checked my phone and saw that Alex had paid me the money.

I took my phone and called Alex.

"Thank you so much. I have seen the money."

"You are welcome. I hope to see you later today."

"Yes Sir."

As I was about to drop the call, my phone rang and it was Elisa's mum who was calling. I picked up the call and said,

"Hello," and at the other end, I heard Elisa's voice. "Hi Elisa, I was planning to call you on my way to work. I was really touched by your mom's health. I wanted to send you some money."

"That's really nice of you. I wasn't expecting much from you."

"What a friend and colleagues for. We need to help one another when we are in need. Do well to send me your account number. That reminds me of Mr. Alex. I was thinking if you can also ask him for assistance. He will help. If you don't mind, I can meet him for you."

"Lizzy, I so much appreciate your lovely care, but please, take Mr. Alex away from the issue. If it comes to the worst, I will go and meet my dad. He can help us. He has the money, but his mistress has made him forget about his family. Also, I heard that Mr. Alex is looking for me everywhere in the town. Please, in case someone introduces him to you, don't give him this number or take him close to me."

"Elisa, what are you hiding? Let me know."

"I'm not hiding anything. I don't want him. Period! I need some sort of privacy."

"I will obey your words."

"Has he come to you?" She asked.

"No.. no, I don't even know him that much." I stumbled.

"Thanks for your assistance. I will forward you my account number."

"You are welcome!" I said and ended the call.

"What's happening between these two?" I asked myself before entering the bathroom.
