The doubts

Abigail went through all of the files that were piled up on the table. She had made notes, which Misha had marked, and decided to make changes the following day.

Despite keeping herself busy with work to divert her attention away from Christopher, her restless mind continued to race toward him.

She sighed deeply and propped her chin up with her elbow resting on the table.

"Why hasn't he returned yet?" she mumbled.

She had waited all day, but he had not returned.

"Abigail, you are still here."

A deep voice from her right brought her back to reality, and she saw Brad approaching her. He was holding his briefcase. He seemed to be going home.

"You should go home," he said, looking at his wristwatch, which read 7 p.m.

"I have been waiting for Christopher," she said.

"He has gone out for some important work and is not coming back to the office. He called me about an hour ago. Didn't he tell you?"
