“What do you mean?” Christopher clasped her arm. “Stop talking nonsense and eat the medicine,” he hissed, placing a tablet in her palm.

Under his fiery gaze, Abigail cowered.

"Do you find it difficult to meet my demand for a baby? It has been two years, Christopher." 

He didn’t answer her question. All he did was stare at her, acting mute.

“Why do I feel like you don’t care about my feelings?” Abigail asked. “Don’t you love me?”

His silence was the clear answer.

Abigail was studying a file when her phone buzzed, disrupting her concentration. She glanced at the phone and saw Gloria's name on the screen. Her heart thumped instantly in apprehension as she feared why her mother-in-law was calling her.

She cleared her throat and answered the phone.

"Good afternoon, Mom." She pulled a smile over her face, trying to sound normal. "What a pleasant surprise! How are things going?"

"We are doing great, dear." Gloria seemed ecstatic, as though she were overjoyed to be speaking with her.

It took Abigail by surprise, and she had no idea what was going on.

"I called you to invite you to dinner at the mansion," said Gloria. "Adrian had gone to the office, and he would inform Chris. We have a lot of planning to do for the party the following weekend. We simply wanted to speak with you two about something."
