He didn’t answer her question. All he did was stare at her, acting mute.

“Why do I feel like you don’t care about my feelings?” Abigail asked. “Don’t you love me?”

His silence was the clear answer.

The atmosphere in the hall shifted from astonishment to an uneasy tension. Not only Christopher but Abigail was shocked as well. Christopher's discomfort and surprise were palpable, and Abigail couldn't help but worry about him.
