The reconciliation

"Are you all right?" Abigail's sweet voice brought him back to reality, and he blinked, rising to his feet. His puzzlement was evident as he struggled to comprehend the situation.

Abigail stopped in front of him, her eyes studying his face intently. "What happened at the party? Didn't you enjoy it?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity. She glanced at the clock on the mantle, noticing the time. "But it's only 8:30 p.m. I thought you wouldn't be back until late tonight."

After a moment of consideration, Abigail asked, "Did you not go to the party?" She assumed that he must have gone straight home from the office instead of attending the celebration.

"You are also at home. Shouldn't you be enjoying the party?" Christopher scoffed, his initial shock disappearing.
