The burned dress

Ella had heard enough. She didn't want to stay here any longer. She turned to go to her room and encountered Sophia.

"Oh, Ella. You are here. What a surprise," Sophia said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Ella ignored her and walked over to her room, her heart racing with a mix of anticipation and anxiety.

"Are you looking for your mother's things?" Sophia asked, her voice trailing after Ella.

Ella paused on her track and looked back at her, frowning.

A smug look spread across Sophia's face. "Go and find them in the backyard."

Ella's stomach clenched at her words. Without wasting time, she sprinted out to the backyard, her heart heavy with dread. When she observed the sight, her face turned pale.

She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Her mother's things, the only remnants of her past, were being consumed by the hungry flames.
