Her Little Angel

Shaun's POV.

"This isn't a new thing. Finding her shouldn't be so hard" I raised my voice in frustration. I was almost losing my mind.

"Maybe she doesn't want to be found" Ken shrugged and I sighed leaning back on the seat.

"Why are you so worried about her? Did she take your money?"

"No" I mumbled under my breath.

"Then I don't think you should worry about someone you met at a club"

That statement for some reason got me angry. Those were the same words I said to myself when I got back and couldn't find her. But here I was, after several days, still worried about her. I had asked my best men to look for her, but it had been to no avail. It shouldn't have been so hard, but they found it difficult. Things like that weren't supposed to be hard for me to do, but here I was frustrated because of someone I barely knew. I didn't even ask her her name. I knew nothing about her.

I had a feeling she didn't want to be found, but there was no way she could hide from me. I was going to search every nook and cranny until I found her.

Lindsay's POV

I groaned in frustration when I read the rejection email. That wasn't the first rejection I received this week, but the third. I had applied for three different jobs, but it was all to no avail. Apparently, I wasn't what they were looking for at the moment. It was annoying and at the same time, frustrating, but there was nothing I could do about it.

It was all Asher's fault. If he wasn't so unreasonable, I would still have my old Job, but he had to be Asher and make my life miserable.

I heard the sound of footsteps from the stairs and I looked up. It was Asher, dressed like the CEO he was. He stared at me briefly before tearing his eyes off me.

"I'm off to work"

"Ok have a nice day" I mumbled, turning my gaze to look at my laptop. I thought he was going to leave, but I heard his footsteps getting louder and. He was coming closer to me. When he had gotten close enough, he bent to my level and planted a kiss on his cheeks.

"I love you," he said under his breath and all I did was nod. I didn't know what else to do because if I said I loved him too, he would rebuke me, calling me a liar, so the only thing I could do was nod with a smile.

"Have a nice day" I managed to speak and he left me.

That was exactly how he acted when he wasn't being violent and heartless. Sometimes it made me wonder if he was two different persons. Maybe this was a plan to make me have no complete reason to leave him. He was as manipulative as the devil and no matter how nice he acted, I never got fooled because it was all an act.

My phone rang by my side. It was Tricia. I picked it up and placed it on her ear.

"How'd it go?"

"Well I didn't find any," she said and I immediately felt discouraged. "But, there's news going around that my boss at my workplace wants to employ new workers. What do you think?"

"At Jexs?" I asked rhetorically. I already knew where Tricia worked. Jexs; one of the biggest companies in the state. Tricia got a job there because she was lucky and also fit for the job, but I knew I wasn't as lucky, neither was I fit. There was no way I could pull something as big as that, plus my overprotective husband wouldn't let me work somewhere as exposed as that. He wouldn't want me to have such high exposure and he most definitely didn't enjoy seeing me get what I wanted.

"I don't know about that" I tapped my fingers on the table simultaneously.

"What? You are just going to sit at home all day. What the fuck even happened to your old job?" She asked and I immediately became nervous

Even though Tricia had been my friend, for a long time, I never for once mentioned to her how Asher was making my life a living hell. In her eyes, she saw Asher as the perfect husband because that was the picture he always painted when we were outside, but they didn't know how he was inside. Only I knew.

"I quit," I said plainly

"But why?"

"My boss was giving me a tough time and I couldn't keep up with him so I quit" That was a lie and I was certain Tricia knew I was lying too, but she chose not to say anything.

" If you say so" she paused. "Anyway, I really think you should try this place out. My boss is not the best, but I'm pretty sure he will be better than the one at your previous workplace"

"I don't even have any experience in working for a company"

" That's because you chose work as a teacher when that is clearly not your field"

'That's because I have an overprotective husband who wanted me to work in a more private place,' I said inwardly.

"But are you sure, they are hiring?"

"I am not certain, but I think you should try it out. You can't conclude by sitting in your house all day. You are an amazing person and I think you will get the job"

"Ok, I'll try it out tomorrow," I said and ended the call. I was going to go to the company the next day, and if I was offered a job, I was going to take it. I already had Asher unstable with the whole divorce threats and all. He might do as I please for the next few months, before going back to his original self. I was going to take advantage of those few months.

The door opened and my little angel jumped into the sitting room. I stood up and watched her run until she got to where I was and I hugged her. The driver had dropped her off.

"Oh darling, how have you been? How was school?" I asked, stooping at her level as I poked her cheek, causing her to giggle. Her big brown eyes shone as she looked at me and it stirred joy in me, just by seeing my little angel smile.

"I had fun, but I still prefer my old school," she shrugged.

"You will soon get used to this new school," I said and she shrugged again.

She took a close look at me before speaking again. "Did Dad do this?" She asked, looking at the bruises on my face and I was immediately thrown off.

I forced a smile. Due to how close I was to her, the injuries on my face were very visible. That's why she was able to see them. "Of course not. I was very clumsy and I bumped into the wall". I said, getting up immediately.

"Your dad will never hurt me. He is a good man"

"That's not what he says about you," she said and my heart dropped. Now I knew my suspicions were true. Asher was indeed trying to turn my child against me.

I bent to her level and cupped her chin. "Leia, what I want you to know is I love you as much as I love life itself. I don't care what your dad has told you"

She got closer and wrapped her arms around me. "I love you mum"

Tears welled up in my eyes. Those words were something I hardly heard genuinely. Asher said it all the time, but it felt like thorns to my ears. I hated it each time he said it.

"I love you too my sweetheart," I said and kissed her on the forehead.
