Dad’s advice versus Mom’s advice

I went home and entered the house, announcing my presence because my dads must know I was still breathing.

/"Is there a reason you enter the house sounding like Tarzan?/" Gavin asked.

/"I thought you would enjoy knowing I’m alive,/" I said with a cheeky grin.

/"What did you do?/"

/"Well, I didn’t go to jail. That is a plus./"

Gavin rolled his eyes. Ty came into the house, carrying a bag in each hand.

/"Why do you look guilty?/" Ty asked.

/"There’s no reason./" I shrugged.

/"Uh, huh,/" Ty said, walking past me.

My dads and I have this unique relationship. They try to keep me out of the pokey and hope I'll graduate without getting expelled from school. Some days we’re not sure of the outcome of my future.

I strolled into the kitchen as Ty put groceries away and Gavin made dinner. I leaned on the counter next to the stove.
