Chapter3

#Chapter3

Kenneth roamed the streets knocking on a very suspious door. A door he hadn’t knocked on years. A woman opened with a shotgun pointed straight for his heart.

/"Go away vampire scum!/" She yelled. Kenneth held his hands up.

/"It’s okay. I’m here to see Nia./"

The woman cocked the gun. /"Nia was killed by one of you. Now go away./"

Kenneth’s eyes opened shocked. /"What? Who? How long?/"

The woman closed the door, but Kenneth placed his foot in the way. /"Please. I need to know. What happened here?/"

The woman shot hitting Kenneth in the shoulder. He flinched with a low growl as a warning showing his fangs. The woman cocked the gun again.

/"I said leave!/"

/"I can’t, Sia./"

The woman backed back in terror. /"How do you know my name?/"

/"Your mother and I were friends. You were born around the same time my son was. Your mother made two medallions one for you and the other for my son./" Kenneth stood straight as if the bullet hadn’t just ripped his shoulder apart.

/"Who are you?/" She asked, leveling the gun to her side.

/"I’m Kenneth./"

She scoffed. /"Kenneth is dead./"

He frowned then remembering the pain and thirst Ross inflicted on him. /"Yes I was. A vampire hunter called Ross held me hostage for over twenty years./"

Sia’s mouth did a slight twitch with disbelief and sympathy. /"Things have changed. I’m sorry Kenneth./" She closed the door before he could speak again.

The times had changed. Nia was the most powerful witch Kenneth had every met. Who had the balls to kill her? In his mind he already knew the answer. Allen did.

/"Fuck!/" He held his long golden gray streaks in his hands with frustration. Remembering his past hadn’t been crucial until now. Everyone that could’ve helped him was now gone, taken by the hands of the one he once called friend.

Flashback

Kenneth walked into the small bar now transformed into a more modern look, but his eyes remembered every placement and every detail of it. The spot use to be called the Juke thirty plus years ago his memory was becoming more nostalgia. The music blasting and the humans danced around the live band. His eyes looked up to the stage to the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life, Lana. He had seen her perform before and was oddly intrigued by her voice and her beauty.

Every night him, Rosa and Allen checked out the place for their food supply, feeding off the locals in the dark corners or outside the building, but these people were the easiest people there was to feed off on. They were drunk usually and unaware of the danger. Killing them was a breeze, but Kenneth by this time didn’t have the thirst as he once he did to kill again. It was becoming old and sure enough he watched his pupil become cold and destructive when he wanted to change.

There was always something dark within Allen that drew Kenneth to him. It was as if he was looking at himself through him or maybe he just wanted to save him, but a monster could never save another. Kenneth’s urges to kill was now more potent and rich than he was first turned. Times were changing though and the humans were becoming more intriguing to him.

/"She is rather nice and I can admit the bitch can sing./" Allen smiled as he drunk the whiskey watching Kenneth’s every move. /"But why haven’t you made your move yet, Kenneth?/"

Kenneth just drunk his whiskey as a shot and shrugged his shoulders. /"Then who will go up there and sing huh you?/" he joked hitting Allen on the shoulder. /"No. I will bed this one and make her beg me to continue to please her then I will take what I need./"

Allen scoffed with a smirk. /"Let me know before you kill her I may want next./"

For some reason the thought of Allen having sex with Lana was repulsive to Kenneth and it pissed him off to the point Kenneth grabbed Allen’s collar. With clenched teeth he reprimanded Allen for his remark , shoving him damn near out the chair.

/"Do not even it try it Allen./" He fangs showed from his mouth as both their eyes turned red. Allen pushed Kenneth off of him, standing up in a rage.

/"You better be fucking lucky I can’t kill you. You worthless piece of shit. I know you weren’t trying to kill her. You want to sex this brood for what? You are changing and maybe Rosa can’t see it but I can./" He walked up to Kenneth shoulder to shoulder then, speaking in his low octave tone. /"You better fucking watch yourself Kenneth./" He bumped into Kenneth on his way out of the club as he looked around realizing he had caused a scene and everyone was staring at him.

Kenneth sat down as Rosa watched from the bathroom hallway, going after Allen to see what happened instead of Kenneth. He only sat back down and cursed at the people staring at him. /"What the fuck are you looking at?/" He growled, causing everyone to jump back.

An hour later once Kenneth walked out of the bathroom, seemingly washing his hands, but was really feeding off a hopeless woman, Lana was there waiting on him, leaning against the wall. Kenneth flinched back a little at her presence. She was shining and something about her made his heart, if he had one swell and break into a million of pieces.

/"Hi./" She smiled, her brown hair shuffled to the front of her face masking her high cheek bones and beautiful full lips. For the first time Kenneth felt his heart beating through his chest and it was as if he could see his own soul through her. Whoever this woman was, she was surely casting a spell on him.

He cleared his throat before he spoke to her. /"Miss Lana? Good evening./" He bowed slightly and placed his hands on his stomach as if trying to relax.

/"I remember seeing you in the back watching me sing. Do you enjoy the show?/" She grabbed her hands holding them in front of her in such a cute manner it made Kenneth speechless for a moment.

/"I love your show. You are really good./" He replied as he saw her beautiful smile light up his dim and gloomy world. He wanted to get to know her more. /"Can I buy you a drink?/"

/"I would love a drink thank you./"

Kenneth held out his arm for her to take, escorting her to the bar, taking the two empty seats. Everyone in the bar seemed to stop and look at Lana with this strange mysterious man. Kenneth turned hearing their chatter about her and him as he placed his hand on the dip of her back as he helped her onto the stool. Neither one spoke until a drink was in their hands and they both were comfortable at the bar.

Lana leaned in then with something wicked in her mind as she smirked after taking a sip of her drink. /"You know I can see right through you./" She whispered which caused Kenneth’s eye to only glance at her.

/"I don’t know…/"

/"Please. I see your friends,/" She placed emphasis on friends as she turned fully to Kenneth. /"I know what they are…what you are. It’s not everyday I run into one of you here out in the open like this./"

Kenneth smirked, gulping down his beer. /"You act as if you know everything about me./" He turned to her intrigued. There was no fear in her eyes even though she claimed to know who he was. The rest of the room went silent as he could only see and hear her. Her voice even melodic with her just talking. /"Yet you aren’t troubled to know me and my friends,/" he used the same emphasis as she did. /"are monsters./"

Lana shrugged. /"Perhaps a part of me should be. Maybe I’m a monster as well for allowing you to captivate me like this. Though I look at you and I don’t see a monster, but I know in that bathroom I will find your sins./"

/"What do you see when you look at me?/"

/"Brokenness./"

Kenneth couldn’t help himself as he leaned in and kissed her. Surprisingly she kissed back and before he knew it he fell in love with her. The woman who saw right through him. It was certain he was a monster, but atleast he had the chance to be something else. Lana made him want to be something better, something she deserved.

End Flashback

That bastard had taken everything away from him. Him and Ross. His son couldn’t even trust him and that hurt more than anything. Ken being raised by his enemy was heartbreaking enough. Kenneth could see the look in his son’s eyes, the hurt, the pain, the torment. Allen put him through hell.

Both of them through hell. In some perspective he was grateful Ken was alive. The time spent away could be made up, but he also knew the truth. Kenneth could never take those years back. He would never be Ken’s father.

That fact hurt more than the bullet in his shoulder. He contemplated as he walked down the dark cold streets how he wished things could be different. The guilt and failure of the ones he cared about weighed heavily on his heart. he vowed silently to all those people he needed to protect. Ken, Teya, and the baby.

They were all that mattered now. /"Hey old man!/" Kenneth’s head shot up from the sound of a group of guys walking in the alley way. A smirk appeared on his face. Were these kids serious?

/"Hey asshole we are talking to you!/"

Their blood was pumping through their veins as Kenneth’s mouth began to water and his fangs begin to spike out. If these kids wanted to test him then he would gladly give them a taste. He smiled, turning back to the kids to show his fangs. /"I have been sleeping for many years now, but now I see this generation needs to be shown some manners./" The kids looked at each other and laughed.

/"You’re a tough for an old man. I give you that. You work out or something?/"

Kenneth looked down at his body. His shoulders was healed but the whole in his shirt was now visible.

/"Shit old man you must have had a rough night? But yo’ its about to get worse. You know who territory this is?/" Kenneth shrugged casually, uncaring.

/"Haze old man. Where have you been all these years?/" Kenneth laughed softly showing more stress lines on his face.

/"I was locked away by a man who killed my wife./" He placed it in simple terms, not wanting to give to much away.

/"Dang man. Well this is Haze’s territory./"

One of the teens replied, taking out a gun. /"Nobody messes with this guy you feel me?/"

Kenneth looked confused. /"Your language is very odd to me./"

/"You cant be here old man. We hate to do this to you, but…/"

One of the teens began to swing. With quick dodge to his right, Kenneth easily avoided the attack.

/"Is this what this Haze is teaching you?/" he kicked the teen sending him flying to the building next to the them, hitting his back with a hard thud that knocked him.

/"DJ!/" One of the teens yelled in anger pointing the gun to him as he fired.

/"Shoot him man!/" One of the other teens yelled, seeing

Kenneth dodge the bullets, but to the trained eye it seemed he never moved. Kenneth leaned forward grabbing the teens, kneeing one in his stomach and swatting the other away with his back hand. They went flying. The last one looked over at Kenneth in horror.

/"You’re one of them…/" He stuttered, with eyes wide.

/"Leave him alone./" Another voice yelled out in the alley way as the shadow of a man came up.

/"You must be Haze?/" Kenneth asked, lifting his shirt sleeves up, getting ready for a fight.

A laugh erupted from the man. /"You guessed it./"

A tall lanky man came from the shadows, well dressed looked sane, but there was something sinister in his eyes. His scent wasn’t of any human he had met nor vampire.

/"No vampires allowed through here, haven’t you heard? Unless I allow it./"

Kenneth held his hands up. /"I didn’t come looking for trouble./" Kenneth replied honestly.

/"You’re older than most vampires I’ve seen. Which means you been starved, been through trauma./" Haze began to take off his suit jacket as he walked up and handed it to the teen still standing.

/"What gave that away?/" Kenneth asked sarcastically.

Haze laughed. /"Your hair man. You should think about dying it and cutting that shit. Its unnatural./"

Kenneth scoffed. /"That’s not what the kids are wearing these days?/"

Haze laughed again as he jerked his head to Kenneth’s face. /"Your eyes show me a man that has seen to much. Wise, but out of time. Like the kid said I rule these parts. I can’t let you leave here alive./"

/"How unfortunate./"

Haze began to circle Kenneth as he stood confidently still. An attack came swift from Haze, a punch to Kenneth’s jaw. He was faster than he anticipated thus causing him to succumb to the blow. He fell to the building as Haze continued his attack with more fists ready at his chest. Kenneth finally caught a fist before he could contact again, pushing Haze back with pure strength. Haze Barely moved. Kenneth’s eyes squinted as he became serious. His head leaned forward head butting Haze causing him to bleed.

/"Fuck./"

Then Kenneth’s knee went up connecting with Haze’s chin causing him to fall backwards. With a crooked smile of excitement he wipes the blood from his mouth and said

/"Not bad for an old man. I underestimated you./"

Kenneth shrugged. /"It seems to happen a lot./"

Haze chuckles as he stands up, ready for another attack. He swung left then right finishing with a kick that Kenneth didn’t catch as his back as again against the wall. Haze grabbed his throat squeezing as he gritted his teeth. Kenneth punched his fists down on Haze’s arm breaking the hold on his throat and kicked him back. Kenneth didn’t let up this time moving faster than Haze, slamming him down on the ground with a thunderous thud that caused blood to shoot out of Haze’s mouth.

Kenneth grabbed his throat with his huge hands ready to snap at any moment. /"Now Haze tell me about the half breeds. Whose creating this army?/"

Haze only smiled. /"Were have you been huh? Half breeds are only the beginning. How do you think I’m able to go toe to toe with you?/"

Kenneth squinted his eyes, squeezing harder until Haze couldn’t breathe. He sniffed him all over finding random scents that he didn’t recognize and one he did.

/"Tell me about the women with the scents./"

Haze coughed as Kenneth let up for him to talk. /"You should know more than me. I smell one all over you./"

He began to laugh, but Kenneth snapped his neck before he could continue. He looked up at the terrified teen who had seen the whole fight and was still holding Haze’s coat. Kenneth stood big and tall compared to the fragile kid. He held his hands out.

/"Give me the coat kid./"

The kid didn’t hesitate as he threw the coat to Kenneth and ran into the night.
