How could he explain to them? What if they thought he was mocking them, or had something to hide?

/"Boy,/" the Alpha growled, his eyes narrowing. /"If you understand the graveness of the situation, then I implore you, speak./"

It took iron will and every ounce of energy to lift his hand, but his trembling fingers curled around his throat, and he managed to shake his head from side to side, mouthing the word 'can't' over and over. He stared at them desperately, hoping they'd understand.

It was impossible to tell. The Alpha became a blank canvas. His face gave nothing away, and his eyes were stone walls that let nothing pass. Clyde had lifted an eyebrow, but like his father, his thoughts were guarded.

/"You can't?/" The Alpha demanded at last. Aiden nodded. /"Through choice?/" Aiden shook his head.
