The hallway was bright. The walls were painted a sunflower yellow, which seemed a bit extreme until Sly walked through it and realised just how magical it was. It was as though sunlight had woven itself between every brushstroke, filling the house with undeniable warmth.

/"Would you like to sit in the kitchen or the living room, Sylvester?/" Jackson had told him that his mother's name was Martha. He liked Martha, he decided, feeling foolish for having worried so much.

/"Either is fine, Ma'am./"

/"Ma'am?/" Martha let out a cheery laugh. Her cheeks, flushed pink, gave off the same jolly vibe that her personality did, and her hair, wild corkscrew curls of orange that fell down to her hips, danced as she moved. /"How polite is he? Just Martha is fine, dear. It's about time you got yourself some well-mannered friends, Jacky. I never did like that Adam./"
