#Chapter44

SHONDRA

Six years ago

Axel had given me a ticket to the afternoon exercises. The one where they called his name and handed him his diploma.

I barely made it.

My plan was to fly into Boston in the early morning and have a leisurely breakfast at a place recommended by Trip Advisor. From there, I'd drop my bags off at my Airbnb, freshen up, and then take an Uber to the ceremony.

It didn't happen.

In the morning, there was a two-hour flight delay because of heavy rain. The water from the skies came down in sheets and everyone clapped when the wheels hit the tarmac. I checked my watch, hurrying toward the cab stand. There was no time for a leisurely breakfast, so I asked the cab driver to drop me off at the Airbnb.
