/"Who are you?/"

Disappointment made my belly clench, and I tried not to let the sigh in my throat come out from my mouth. He asked me that question each time a bad day was on the horizon.

And those days were occurring more and more often.

/"I’m Vegas, Daddy. Your daughter./"

The parent I loved scrunched up his lips and turned his head to the window near his bed. /"Tina and I never had kids./"

He remembers that bitch, but not me.

Chill, Vegas. He can’t help it.

Daddy’s doctor said that Alzheimer’s patients remembered some people’s names, but not others. I knew this, even so, it cut deep.

My childhood all over again.

/"Hey, Ms. Shipley./" Oscar, a wiry man with bronze skin, goatee, and dark hair, sauntered into the room with my dad’s meal tray. He wore the standard hospital green scrubs, but put his own flair for it with a bright neon-pink undershirt.
