Violet's POV
Wow, she is so beautiful. I wonder which tribe she came from?" I hear of few males say this about me while we walk toward chiefs circle
I can see Jee flinching every time he hears this. I wonder what may have happened when it comes to Jee and his insecurities
"Violet, we will do everything here. Everyone, this is Violet. She is going to teach a few men here how to weave baskets and I am going to teach everyone how to maintain little suns." Jee says to everyone
"So my boys were right, we are now able to control little suns." A beautiful woman says while coming near the circle.
This female has a beautiful hour glass shaped body. Her hair is so long that it barely misses the floor. Bright red and yellow, glossy looking hair. It reminds me of the sun.
"Violet, this is my mom Clarise." Jan says to me
"Nice to meet you. "I say back to her
"All the pleasure. Us females have a hard time seeing at night so when they came barging in saying there's a female who can help with us seeing at night I had to come and check it out." she says back to me
"Glad you came. I know Jee doesn't like me to do much but weaving these baskets can make up for time and they are so fun for me to do. Would you like to learn as well?" I ask her
"We want to learn too?" I see 3 other woman chime in
"Why would you want to?" ask one of the males to the females
"Doing these baskets is nothing of labor and like she said it can be enjoyable. I hate just staying at home and watching the kids." I see one of the females pout
"Yeah this will give me something to do." another female says to her male with puppy eyes
They look apologetically back to me and I nod with approval
"Perfect! I can show you guys how!" I say to a group of them
Jee was able to teach all the males in the tribe how to make fires. It took them a while to get the spark started but eventually they were able to create a big fire by the chief circle and a few fires in the middle rows of all the tree houses. I was able to show them how to make torches with leaves and we used the coconut husks to maintain the height of the torch flames. Coconuts here are strong enough to be pretty much a substitute for this world's metal.
Weaving baskets was fun. I met so many females here and we enjoyed it. We were able to make small baskets to place next to the fires to hold water and one of the females thought of places to put handles like backpack straps on the baskets for the males when they go gathering. I should've thought of that! We made baskets with straps and baskets with handles. I also added a basket to put their little ones in to keep them warm. All the new moms and moms with little ones loved that idea.
"That's about it Violet. Are you ready to go back home?" Jee asks
I look up and tell him, "Yes."
"Wait, can she help me finish this first and then you guys can head out? I am having trouble finishing this strap part." One of the females I get along with says back to Jee
"Sure sure. I will gather more wood for us then, Violet." Jee says to me and leaves
"Phew! We were waiting this whole time for him to leave but he was stuck to your waist!" Lisa said to me
"Why is something wrong?" I ask with concern
"Not why it's who. We just wanted you to know since you will meet her soon." Clarise says to me
"I am just going to say it outright. Before you, Jee has a girlfriend. He really loved and cherished her. They grew up together and were best friends. But things didn't work out so well for Jee." Jess says to me
"The thing is Jee has siblings." Lisa says to me
"Siblings? I never knew he didn't tell me." I say back to them
"You guys have just met. Don't worry too much you have time to understand and learn from each other. This is normal here in the Beast Kingdom." Clarise says to me
"Sometimes we will have our chief children match up with other chiefs' children for peace between tribes. They don't even know each other or have met before and they move to be with each other as mates. But this is not the case." Lisa says to me determined
"During mating ceremonies all unmated males and females will be able to have parties during a 7 day season after the rainy season. At that time a lot of magical things happen. This is when of course unmated males and females have a chance to meet someone and mate. Keep in mind females and males can mate with multiple partners." Jess says to me
"What really? I would never!" I say back to them
They all look embarrassed and then Clarise finally brings back the conversation
"Females are rare here. I am not too sure why but it's easier to give birth to a male then a female. For every 1 female there are 7 males. That is why females have so many males but that's not the only reason why. Since females are rare, males fight for their females. Afterwards the female will choose who she wants as her partner." Clarice says back to me
"But when other tribes pass by they may also want females so they challenge our men to see if they can partner with their females. It can be so awful at times." Lisa says concerned
"Jee lost against his older brother. It shocked everyone when his older brother Isaiah challenged him. No one would have known that Isaiah had feelings for Rebecca. Isaiah and Jee were close so this didn't make sense. The thing is Jee is stronger than Isaiah so when he lost against Isaiah everyone was even more in shock." Jess says
"We think he lost on purpose and gave Rebecca to his brother. We don't know why but we wanted to let you know this. If Jee is like this with you, he wants you and you should not be concerned about Rebecca." Clarise says to me
"This is all new to me and the ways of this Kingdom. Has there ever been a time where females choose to not mate?" I ask them
They all looked at me concerned
"One of the main purposes of females is to reproduce. Even giving birth to a female gives you a higher status. We have never heard of a female not having a male but we have heard of a female who never bore a child. I don't think it would be smart to not have a male. This world is too scary to be on your own, Violet. If not now but later someone will keep trying and they will always do this." Lisa says sadly
I feel like she has her own story to tell.
"Regardless, we need males to protect us. The more the merrier and the better protection. If you give birth to a child in their tribe you are able to stay. If you don't give birth you have to make up for it." Jess says
"But that's another conversation for a different time. We just wanted to give you a heads up, Violet." Clarise says to me and smiles
I look up and see Jee coming back with the wood. I grab the basket and finish the strap weave.
"You guys haven't heard yet of me frying fish. Next time come over so I can make some for you" I say to them and wave
"Does she not know that fish is disgusting?" Lisa says to the girls
"I bet she does a good job if Jee hasn't said anything bad about it." they all laugh at the same time
