Chapter 20: Gone

Rowan wished he’d woken up much earlier, but his dream was far too enticing to allow it to end so quickly.

Being home for the first time in over a decade—and welcomed back by Lady Silvercrest just as if he were her long lost son—seemed to have dredged up even more memories from his golden childhood at the Silvercrest manor.

He wasn’t even sure he remembered when this memory happened, but he remembered the spot: a short cliff, a hidden glen on the side of the bigger of the two Sister Mountains, with the lakes beside Aster’s home glimmering gently a mile or two below them. On a clear summer’s eve, long after the sun had gone to bed, Rowan found himself laying under a sky of falling stars. He watched a couple streak across the sky, but the true beauty laid at his side.
