Chapter 19: Stranger than Fiction

Eva and Kate looked at the broken front door when they heard footsteps at the base of the stairs. Kate sighed and went to close it. “I wonder how much that’s going to cost me.” No matter what she tried however, it remained ajar.

Questions on how she would lock the door vanished when she saw Thane’s head appear from behind the banisher railing. Kate waved. “Welcome back, I guess. Where did you go anyway? More importantly,” she swung the door open and closed several times. “Are you going to fix this?”

From behind Kate, Eva echoed, “Yeah, are you going to fix it Thane? Surprisingly, this town doesn’t have a store that exclusively sells doors.”

Thane paused in the doorway and examined where the lockset and strike plate had been bent. With a moderate amount of pulling, pushing and hammering from his fist, he maneuvered everything back into place. The door didn’t even catch on anything when he shut it.
