Chapter 35: A Momentary Respite

Tim’s eyes opened and he sat up, his wispy, brown hair sticking straight up like a wild man’s. He blinked and looked around, confused about where he was. Realizing he was in his bed, he breathed a sigh of relief. To his left, Kate cleared her throat. He looked at her, puzzled as to why she was curled up in a blanket in one of the fold out chairs from storage.

“Kate, why are you in my room?”

Kate stood up and handed him a large glass of water from his nightstand. “Watching over you. I really wasn’t sure if you’d ever wake up. Do you remember anything?”

It wasn’t until the water touched his lips did Tim realize how thirsty he was. After finishing the entire cup, he said, “Let’s see,” he rubbed his eyes. “I went to the warehouse to get something to drink and then,” he glanced at Kate’s clothes. “I think I was dreaming afterward. You were uh, wearing,”

Kate smiled. “A lot less?” she offered. “No, that was real. Keep going.”
