21. Unexpected information

LARA'S POV

Two weeks passed and Cameron was going to talk to his team as to give him the recordings of his testimony of what happened in the accident, leaving me alone for part of the day, which would be great, because I would take the opportunity to go to jail and see the people who murdered his sister. I must start discovering something before Cameron found out from the other side what's happening.

I was sitting on the bed looking out the window when I heard someone sound and not much later, my sister sits next to me looking out the window. "Are you sure you want to go today? We can go another day and we'll come up with something to say to Cameron" said my sister, who ended up taking my hand "I know, but I want to get this over with as soon as possible" I answered honestly "We can wait a little longer if that's what you want." We don't have to go right now."

"I know that too, but seriously, I want to go today" I assured, and she nodded "As you want, later we'll do something for you to de-stress" she responded, and I nodded. After a few more minutes sitting on the bed and looking out the window, we got up and left, saying goodbye to my mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

An hour and a half later, we arrived at the prison parking lot and we both sat looking at the building in front of us. "Are you sure you want to do it today?" my sister asked for the second time that day and I nodded "I want to do it. You can go for a walk if you want. You don't have to wait for me" I said honestly, because if I know anything about Bianca, it's that she hates doing nothing "No, no. I will wait here" she assured, and I nodded.

I got out of the car and went to the door, which an agent opened for me, and I entered. In the hall they asked me who I was coming to visit, and they gave me a visitor sticker. I'm directed to the visiting area and the agent pointed me in the direction of a boy, who I assumed is Edward. I went in his direction and sat in the chair across from him.

The boy frowned and looked at me for a few seconds. "Who are you?" He asked curiously "Lara Gallego" I said, and his eyes widened in surprise "Lara Gallego? The driver?" He asked and I simply nodded "What are you doing here?" He asked confused "I come from my mother-in-law" I answered dryly "Mother-in-law?" He asked, "I'm Cameron's wife, and honestly, I wouldn't want to waste my time here. I have more important things to do"

"I asked to talk to Isabelle or Cameron," he pointed out and I rolled my eyes. "And that's something I don't care about. Either you tell me what you want, or you can forget to talk to them," I said, thinking of ways I could do so the letters would stop reaching both of them. "Okay, okay." He said, looking at the guard, "Well, whenever you want."

"My lawyer will be waiting for you outside to give you a card with a video. I want you to see it or for them to see it, but I can assure you what happened with Ellie, happened because she asked us to," he said and I denied, because I know Ellie would not ask for something like that. "Yes, she asked us. It's all on that card. I know it's hard to believe, but I assure you that's what happened. She didn't want her family to be burdened with that decision, so she decided to do it herself," he reported, and even though I know she would do something like that to prevent her family from suffering, I also know she wouldn't want to end her own life.

"I understand the part about not wanting Isabelle or Cameron to be burdened with the decision of what to do with her life, but equally, she wouldn't end up ending her life," I said, and he nodded. "And in any other situation, she wouldn't have done it, but Ellie had been hospitalized for a week, she was in unbearable pain... She didn't have more than a couple of weeks left at most... She didn't want Cameron or her mother to see her like that, so she asked us to help her end her life"

"I still don't believe it honestly" I said, and he nodded. "And I understand. That's why Ellie wanted to make a video so you would believe us," he said, and I was left thinking about everything he told me. "Anything else you have to tell me?" I asked and the boy denied "Well then I'm leaving" I responded, getting up and turning in the direction of the door, but I stopped, because there's something that didn't fit me in all this "If you had a video why didn't you use it in the trial?" I asked and the guy shrugged. "Because we knew the video wasn't going to mean not going to jail and losing your license," he responded. "So why now?"

"Sallie's mother is sick and she wants to see her…" he said and now I understood the reason why they were doing it now "You're looking for Cameron or Isabelle to say something in your favor so she can go see her mother" I responded and he nodded "I really don't care if I don't get out of here, but I want Sallie to be able to be with her mother... They say she's bad and I want my best friend to go see her mother before it's too late," he pointed out and I nodded. "I'll see what I can do."

The boy nodded and I headed to the door of the visiting room when a man appeared in front of me, and surprise colored his face. "Lara Gallego?" He asked and I nodded "I've been asking my lawyer to find you for a while. That's why I kicked him, but I'd like to talk to you" he said relieved, and I frowned "Why?" I asked, confused. "Because I know what happened to your husband's car and I know who asked me for it."

At that moment, I feel the ground move, and when I notice the man's hands in front of me on my arms, which don't take long to disappear, since a guard pushed him against the wall and with me on the ground, trying to understand how the guy knew what happened to my husband's car.

"Ma'am, are you okay?" asked the agent who had been at the door and I nodded, getting up and approaching where the other agent was, grabbing the man "He didn't do anything to me, I would like to be able to talk to him" I asked and the agent began to focus his gaze on me " Are you sure you want to do it?" He asked and I nodded "Yes, I just got dizzy. It's my pregnancy's fault, not the man's," I said because even though I know I got dizzy because of what he said, I also know that pregnancy has something to do with all of this. "Okay, whatever."

The man gave me a small smile and the agent sat him at the empty table closest to us. I sat in front of him. "I'm sorry for blurting it out to you like this, but I've really been trying to contact you for a while," he said, and I nodded even though I'm still confused. "Can you explain to me what you said?" I asked, eager to see if I could learn anything more about my husband's accident. "Let's say that, since I was little, I'm the twin who got into trouble, and I ended up here. My brother was one of your husband's mechanics, and this man came to me to ask me to replace him and do something to his car."

"What a man?" I asked "Gallagher. Gallagher wanted to kill you for what you did to him, and he had promised to get me out of here if I helped him. I have a two-year-old daughter out there, and I want to get to know her and be present in her life. I swear to you I changed, and only for that reason I have done it. I'm desperate to get it, but besides, he kidnapped my brother and told me he would kill him if I didn't do what he wanted," he said, and even though I didn't like what he had done to my husband, a small part of me understood. He's desperate to be with his daughter and want to save his brother. "What did you do to the car?"

"I don't know what it was exactly, but he gave me a small device to put between the flat bottom and the engine... he explained it would cause a small explosion that would cause him to lose control of the car and catch fire... I guess it did. What he wanted was for me to murder him," he said, and I couldn't help but take a breath trying to understand what he's telling me. "Were you the one who changed the pieces?" I asked and he nodded, looking away. "He told me that he had to get the evidence from the car before they investigated it. I had to sneak into the garages to do it"

"So, what are you still doing in jail?" I asked, trying to contain the anxiety beginning to run through my body. "When I went to his house to release my brother, the stupid called the police saying I wanted to try to rob his house and threatened him with a weapon I didn't know I had it, but they found it in some bushes next to their house with my prints on it" he said in an angry tone "Why did it have your prints?" I asked and he shrugged his shoulders "The truth is that I have no idea. I only know that my sentence increased, and my girlfriend doesn't want to bring the girl to me so I can meet her," he responded.

"Why did you fire your lawyer? He will be able to help you with the case" I responded, and he denied "I'm almost sure that lawyer was paid by Gallagher. The only thing it did was make my case worse and I ended up with more sentence than I had" he responded angrily, and I was left thinking, trying to fit in everything the man told me "Why did you decide to tell it now?" I asked "Because I know what I did wrong... I know neither you nor your husband deserve something like that and because I want both my girlfriend and my mother not to believe I'm a thief and armed" he answered and I nodded, because I suppose for some reason thus, they wouldn't let him approach the girl "I can help you, but I want you to help me put that guy in jail... for what he did to you and for what he has done to my husband."

"I will be happy to do it, I can assure you," he answered, and I nodded. "I will have my lawyer take up your case. I can assure you he's one of the best" I said, getting up from the chair, wanting to get out of here as soon as possible and try to get some fresh air "Thank you very much, Lara. It's something I'll never forget" he said sincerely, and I nodded "You don't have to thank me for anything, in the end you're helping me too" I replied "Ah, before I forget. Someone from Cameron's team, I think from the board, was helping Gallagher."

With that, the guard opened the door for me, and I got out of there as fast as I could. The moment I leave the interior of the building, a man stands in front of me with something in his hand. "Mrs. Edwards?" He asked and I denied. I'm starting to get dizzy again and I noticed how my breathing is getting faster and faster. "Get away from my sister if you don't want me to kill you," said my sister, appearing at my side in a few seconds with a worried expression. "I just want to give her this... she has spoken to Mr. Edward, and he asked me to give her this," he defended himself and Bianca took it and put it in his pocket. "Now you can go and leave us alone."

The man left and Bianca stood in front of me with her hands on either side of my face "Hey, hey, calm down... everything is fine" she said and I denied, because at this moment it is not what it seemed "What I need at this moment you need to calm down... once you calm down, tell me what happened and I will help you... Now just follow my breathing" she asked, and I nodded, seeing how she made her shoulders move exaggeratedly so I could follow her breathing.

A few minutes later a small smile appeared on her face, and she took her hands off my face, leaving them in my arms. "Better?" My sister asked and I nodded "Perfect. Let's go to the car and there you tell me what happened to make you get like this. I hope that stupid guy didn't tell you something to make you get like that, because I promise you, I'll go in there and kill him with my own hands."

"The boy has nothing to do with it," I said quickly, knowing I would go in there and beat him without remorse. "So, what made you like this?" She asked curiously. "I know what happened to Cameron's car... when he had the accident in the race."
