Chapter 49

Cyber Chameleon was taken aback when he had another visitor just a few days after Nell and Jacob's. He expected one of them to return for another fruitless interrogation, but he was astonished to see who was waiting for him. It was a young woman his age with black hair, and even though he didn't recognize her face, he knew who she was.

"You haven't visited me in a long time." said Cyber Chameleon.

"I've been out of town putting the puzzle pieces together for my strategy. And I wouldn't be able to do so if I ended up here with you." Nichole smiled, which Cyber Chameleon returned.

"Now that the city is hunting for you, you realize how dangerous it is for you to be here." said Cyber Chameleon.

"And I am currently in the last place anyone would expect me to be. Prision. Just not as a prisoner." Nichole explained.

"What if the guards overhear our conversation?" Cyber Chameleon inquired.

"You already know how crooked the guards are here. Mitchell, my darling, has already paid the guards to grant us privacy and fed bogus prepared audio into the cameras, so they won't suspect a thing and we may chat freely for the time being." Nichole replied, and Cyber Chameleon nodded, for Nichole was always one step ahead.

"Your family came to see me a few days ago," Cyber Chameleon explained.

"It's not surprising. Did these cause you any problems?" Nichole inquired.

"No, Jacob was exactly how we imagined him to be, but Nell, he did throw me for a loop." said Cyber Chameleon.

"Did he say anything to you?" Nichole inquired.

"He must have done some investigation before coming to see me, because he knew about my father and inquired about him. However, he mentioned something that struck a chord with me." said Cyber Chameleon.

"What exactly did she say?" Nichole inquired once more.

"He knows about the face skin masks he produced for me, and he wondered why he couldn't fake his death and make one for himself." said Cyber Chameleon.

"Okay, I have to give him credit for that one. I'm curious why we never thought of it ourselves." said Cyber Chameleon.

"So, what are we going to do about it?" Cyber Chameleon inquired.

"For the time being, you must remain seated until your freedom, which I assure you will come shortly. In the meantime, I'm going to dig into the possibility that Xavier Tucker is still alive, and if he is, we'll bring him to his knees in front of us before he truly dies." While Nichole's watch beeped, Cyber Chameleon nodded.

"And we're running out of time. Jonas, I swear we'll talk again soon." Nichole said, being careful not to name him Cyber Chameleon because it would be a dead giveaway, before getting up and leaving.

"I was astonished that you wanted to speak with me." Catherine said as she walked inside Jacob's office.

"It's not about us. This is the story of Kid Owl." Jacob became enraged.

"And how about him?" Catherine inquired.

"I was aware that your company was developing a weapon capable of breaching the Owl suit. How near is it to completion?" Jacob inquired.

"It's still in the testing stages, but so far it's been quite beneficial. Why?" Catherine inquired.

"Because I want to buy enough to arm every Vulture with Owl-killing ammunition." Catherine nodded as Jacob spoke.

"We can chat after the rifle is ready." Catherine explained.

"It's not just the rifle. I'd like to pay Samuel Hector to design a full arsenal of anti-Owl weapons." Jacob stated.

"I'll see what we can come up with." Catherine spoke out, and Jacob grinned.

"Excellent." Jacob spoke forward, unaware that his entire chat had been recorded.

"Your father is going insane." As he, Nell, and Chloe observed the conference from the bug they'd put in Jacob's office, Robert said.

"Rather than concentrating on taking down Nichole or finding Ruby, he's attempting to kill me." Nell stated.

"And he's in charge of the agency in charge of defending this city?" That made Chloe laugh.

"His animosity for the heroes picked by Microsoft X outweighs his desire to safeguard this city. And there's a decent chance he'll end up destroying it rather than Nichole or any of the other lunatics in town." Nell stated.

"Do you think Caleb will end up backing this?" Robert inquired.

"I sincerely hope not, but you never know. In this verse, I can only hope that his moral compass is stronger than his commitment to Jacob "Nell stated this while lightly walking by Robert's ear, so Chloe wouldn't hear.

"In the meantime, we should probably try to obtain that weapon and see if we can modify our data suits to be resistant to it." Nell agreed with Chloe's statement.
