Unexpected End

Everyone on the bridge was looking towards the central project. It showed a bunch of fast moving lights moving past them. The rainbow lights were characteristic signs of FTL drive. Nobody really knew what the higher dimension really was. All they knew were that it helped them traverse the stars in speeds otherwise impossible.

"Transitioning in 3, 2, 1" One of the operators spoke.

Everyone felt a sudden feeling of uneasiness that washed over them. It was the sign that they had exited FTL, The rainbow lights in the projection was also replaced by a starry sky depicting the native star and planets of the Urk-Tradjik System.

"Perform post FTL analysis. Have everything ready within the hour." Noel instructed all the operators.

In the absence of Kita, He was the one in charge of the bridge and in charge of the operations.

He oversaw everyone working away at their designated terminals. Everything was going smoothly.

He was quite pleased with the amount of progress he had made in infiltrating the Jeager.

After the previous incident aboard the Jeager, he didn't think that he would get assinged her again. But surprisingly, the opportunity had presented itself and he had also gotten the green light from the higher ups.

Although he previous assignment was because of political agenda, he wasn't quite sure what was the reason, that he had been assigned here again. What was so important about this supposed Dr. Kita that the higher ups had given him some special instructions.

He was to actively monitor his activities and specially his ongoing research. And was the report them back to his handler.

Since joining, he had been keeping quite a close eye on Dr. Kita. He had tried to shadow him quite a few times, but every time he was met with greater resistance that he could surmount. Someone aboard the ship and actively thwarted his attempts at installing some surveillance devices around Dr. Kita.

Noel wasn't sure who exactly it was. But he had a couple of suspicions. He needed to find a way to circumvent these restrictions and install the bugs in the Lab.

As he was thinking about how he could achieve these feats. His comm suddenly beeped. He checked the notification.

Nova Solis had asked him to got and meet him in his office. It seemed to be urgent.

"This guy again..." Noel gave out an sigh.

Ever since this guy had joined, His work had become way harder. Nova had crashed everything that Noel was building towards.

He had wanted to hire a bunch of people that he was familiar with and would provide him with crucial help when needed.

But This Nova guy had come and thrown out his plan out the hatch and ha taken on the role of hiring more stuff. He had filled all the positions that needed to be filled with people that Noel wasn't familiar with and would prove to be any help in his mission.

Not just that, Nova had contributed towards the demise of many of his other plans that frustrated Noel to no end.

If possible, Noel wanted to get rid of this guy the most. He had been a pain in the ass since day one.

And now he wanted him to go and meet him in his office.

Noel didn't want to go. But it seemed that Nova already knew about that and insisted that he came. It was supposed to be really important.

Seeing as there was no choice but to go, He got up from his seat and walked out of the Bridge.

After taking a quick pod ride, he arrived at Nova's office.

As he entered the room, He found Nova behind a terminal, Most of his face hidden behind it. Noel could only make out his blonde hair a bit.

"Mr. Noel, take a seat." Nova said without looking up from the terminal. It seemed that he knew who it was.

Noel took a seat and looked at Nova.

He expected him to turn and say whatever he wanted to say.

But he didn't look at him. Nova just sat there as the other person before him typed away at the terminal.

This pissed him off.

'He calls me here and wastes my time while he keeps on working. What the hell?'

Nova had been a problem ever since he joined. And Noel had a plan to get him fired. But the plan still needed some maturing before it was ready to be excecutaed. Till then, he needed to put up with this guy.

Nova took a few more minutes before he put away the terminal and looked towards his guest.

He took out a sheet of paper from a desk and presented it before noel.

"Please sign this." He said in a calm tone. His tone suggested that it was a routine procedure.

Noel looked at the sheet of paper for a bit.

Nobody really used paper these days anymore. So it was a bit surprising to see Nova presenting an important document in a sheet of paper.

Noel took the paper in hand and began reading it's contents.

The more he read, the more his eyes became wide open.

He threw the paper in front of Nova and yelled.

"What's the meaning of this?" Anger clear in his eyes.

He looked as if he was ready to lash out.

"It means exactly what you think it means. You're are being relieved of your service. You're services are no longer needed aboard the Jeager." He said in a calm tone.

His eyes, Stone cold and his glare devoid of any emotions.

"What? Doesn't Dr. Kita know of this? I bet that he doesn't! You're trying to kick me out on your own right? What reason are you gonna show Dr. Kita when he hears of this?" Noel became hysterical. But it was only an outwards appearance. Inside, he was thinking if Nova had caught on to his plans. Although he had been quite careful, But one could never be to sure.

"Heh. If it was me, I would've kicked you out the day I joined." Nova finally broke into a cold smile. He didn't hide his disgust towards Noel.

"From the first moment I laid my eyes on you, You reeked of a mole. I just didn't have any evidence. Fortunately, I didn't need to find any evidence. It presented itself to me. Here's what you're looking for." Nova said as he threw a stack of papers in front of him.

At a glance, Noel knew what it was. It was all the communications he had with his handler. Somehow, This guy had gotten his hands on their conversation!

But he couldn't admit it outright. He needed to feign ignorance.

"What is this? This isn't mine! You must've fabricated fake evidence against me! I want to see Dr. Kita right now!" He retorted. He should still be able to salvage the situation if he could get a talk with Dr. Kita.

"You're still gonna feign ignorance? That's weird. I thought you would've just accepted it by now. But alas." Nova seemed a bit confused as Noel's retort.

"Huh?" Noel was also confused at his reaction. As he was about to say anything further.

Nova slapped a stack of documents on the table. Each one of them more incriminating than the last. Each one of them was enough to kick him out on their own. But altogether, They didn't leave any room for negotiation.

"Here's a total list of evidence I have against you. Dr. Kita in his all glory had decided to leave it to me. So it's my decision to make. And my decision is that you have served your purpose for long enough. You're services are no longer needed." Nova said as he pressed a button.

Two guards entered the room and walked towards Noel who was still in bit of a trance.

'This guy.... This guy had ruined everything! I'll kill you!' As noel was about to lash out. The two guards grabbed him from either side and began dragging him out of the room,

"Wait.. I still need his sign." Nova said as he stood up. Took the resignation letter from the table and walked towards noel was still restrained by the two guards.

"Please sign here." Nova said as he revealed a cold smile.
