In a dark basement that is filled with carcass and corpse, two man-shaped creature with four tentacle by their mouths stand tall.
"N'lkrikex, how many times I told you before to learn this world's language." One of the man-shaped creature exclaimed. It looks calm at the outside however its tone of voice betrays his intention.
"Me.. apologize... master Qrr'Askath" N'lkrikex said. Its menacing aura earlier when he almost subdued the three poor elf is gone the moment its superior shows up.
"I don't even know why how are you taking this long to learn a language." Qrr'Askath complained while shaking its head.
Its complained are warranted since their race are more intelligence than the typical monsters found in the dungeons. They can learn a whole language within a week by just consuming the brains of their target.
"Forget about it. Go find those three and make sure you capture at least one of them alive." Qrr'Askath ordered.
N'lkrikex bows in acknowledgement and raises its staff. The moment it raises its staff an undead elite monster comes out in the shadow, the elite monster wore a cassock and wields a staff. The elite monster just groans and follows behind N'lkrikex.
N'lkrikex traverse the path while its slimy tentacle touches the wall. It uses its tentacles to try and track the three elves that run away earlier. After a few minutes it stop touching the walls and proceed to walk as if it already had a direction in mind.
In a dimly lit room where the only light source is coming from a single torch. There's three elves are taking shelter. One of them is unconscious while the other two are trying to wake him up without making too much noise as much as possible.
"Fuck! We're done for. That enemy is too strong. I didn't even understand what it did back there." Phraan complained. He really wants to tell River the words "I told you so" however he chose not to since it will not change what already happened. The only thing in his mind is regret. Regret for sleeping with a noble's wife which caused his exile and the reason he's a bandit at the first place. Regret for joining a bandit group full of overconfident bastards. Regret for knowing Cleo and Leah.
"Phraan, do you remember the path we took to come here?" River asked ignoring the agitated elf trapper.
Phraan just keeps mumbling to himself while sitting hugging his knees and rocking back and forth.
"Phraan get a hold of yourself. You're the trapper here, do you remember the path earlier?" River asked once again while shaking the elf trapper.
River knew its pointless to ask this thing since both of them are panicking and dragged the unconscious elf cavalier earlier so its not really possible for Phraan to map out their location. However he still need to ask it instead of spiral into depression like Phraan. He somehow need to retain his composure at time like this, especially at time like this.
River might not be a good leader but when push comes to shove he can step up to the role. If not for an unfortunate event that was pinned on him he might be a commander of an archer battalion right now. He was once a proud elf before joining the Lion's Mouth bandit group.
When asking Phraan turns out to be pointless he hurriedly look at his spatial ring to find any item that might help in the predicament they are in right now. However the only thing in his spatial ring are some food rations, training weapons that the Hallows Guild provided and the elemental arrows that was left after the skirmish at Venundarr.
He could try using the elemental arrows but the space they are in is really not the best place for an archer. The straight and narrow path will make all his shots predictable since there is really no other angle he can shoot it. Even if that's the case he still need to try and stand his ground because if not they might as well just kill themselves now to save themselves from the excruciating pain they felt earlier.
River slaps both of his cheeks to regain his composure. He brought out all the elemental arrows and one by one put it inside the quiver that is strap at his hip. He then goes out to scout the nearby corridors. The left and right side of the corridors are almost identical. He's not sure if its instinct or just bias that leads him to choose the right side.
Leaving the two trapper elf and the unconscious elf at the room they took shelter in. River sets out with one goal in mind. Try to find an escape in this hell hole he brought them in.
