2. Out of spite
Falling to my knees in anguish I screamed obscenities at the childish goddess who had screwed me over
Suddenly I hear the sound of metal footsteps as I look up to see a group of soldiers
"What was that noise!? It sounded like a dying goblin!" One of them shouted before I sprinted away
Now in an alley, I can finally take a deep breath to calm down
"Fuck… what do I do now… what do I do now!?" I muttered under my breath
"Maybe I should just… No! That's exactly what she wants me to do! Fuck you, I'm gonna rise to the top and show everyone that charisma is the number one stat!" I eased my fist at the sky filled with a new fury
"I'll do this shit out of spite!" I made a final middle finger to the sky before going back into the streets
"First things first… getting to level 10!" I made my way to the most crowded area of the town assuming that the starter quest was located there and after a solid hour of waiting in line I finally got the quest
Walking out of the town there were even more people hunting the rabbits that the quest called for, the second one would spawn all players in the area would dolphin dive at it
"There's no way I can get any kills here…" I made my way into the higher levelled areas where the rabbits went from being an area mob to being a common forest animal
They were more scattered out and by the time I found the first rabbit I realized that I didn't even pick a class meaning that I don't have any specialization in stats

"Status…" after waiting for a couple of seconds I make the assumption that it isn't voice-activated so I manually tap on the status button

I put all points into agility before tapping on the hidden stats option which made a whole new status board pop up

Pressing the back arrow I navigated my way to inventory where I saw a hologram of my character to the left and a bunch of empty boxes to the right, three of the boxes had items in them which were a sword, bread and a book
Taping on the sword icon two options appeared which were "equip" and "drop" with a third "action" option greyed out with a lock symbol on top
Tapping equip the sword appeared in my hands, the weight of it surprised me but I managed to stop myself from falling over. It wasn't exactly heavy but I guess I'm still not adjusted to virtual reality
It was about 3 and a half feet long which is more than half of Ryuko's height and had a circular guard. The handle had enough room to be a two-handed weapon but it was light enough to be used as a one-handed sword. The blade was slightly chipped and rusted with the only part of it that looked sharp enough to make a deep cut was the tip

Trusting the sword at its neck it failed to dodge in time

"Nice!… but what does vital weapon use and vitals hit mean…" I opened the inventory again and took out the book labelled "tutorial"
The book was organized like a dictionary so I just had to flip to the pages labelled V

A vital weapon use happens when a weapon is used at its best capabilities, for example, the place on the beginner item "used iron bastard sword" which would enable this is the tip of the blade, when paired with a trusting attack it doubles the damage of the attack if paired with a vital hit the damage will triple

Every being in the game has a weak spot, some more than others. When hitting that weak spot the attack will deal double damage if paired with a vital weapon attack it will deal triple damage

"Woah! I guess that means my job just got ten times easier!" I threw the book back in my inventory before finishing up the quest
Walking back into town I noticed that the starter quest npc was still crowded so deciding that I didn't want to wait in line again I went to go get a class
There are a shit ton of classes in Voltnet but if I wanna take advantage of my charisma I must go with being a Bard. Bards are a buffing class which buff themself and their teammates through song and stories
"There's no way…" I stood in the middle of the street looking up at a building with disgust and dread

"Goddamnit" I muttered under my breath
"Well, what do we have here? A new worker Eh?" A man in a blue suit rubbed his chin
"Can it perv. I just wanna be a bard" I walked up to the counter
"Ehe… My apologies, just this way madame" he said scratching the back of his head before leading me into a room at the back
"Sir Caric! You have a visitor!" The man yelled into a steam-filled room before a woman wearing nothing but a tea shirt ran out
"Sorry!" She apologized as she ran by
"Sir Caric?" The man yelled into the room
"Come in," another man said
"This young lady here wants to be a bard… and for you to put on some pants," the attendant told a man sitting in nothing but a bathrobe on a couch
The man had fluffy black hair and hit pink eyes, he stood at 6'1 but had a slight slouch making him look shorter than he actually was
"One sec… there we go. Send her in" he said while lighting a cigarette
"Just give me the class so I can get out of here quickly"
"No need to be so fast cutie. Say, you looking for some spare cash?" He said with a smirk
"Shut it, I want to get the class and get out of here"
"A fussy one eh? I like ya so how's about you do me a favour and I get you a special job" he shot a finger gun at me
"…better not be something perverted"
"Nah nah, see there's this woman I'm interested in but there's certain… circumstances that prevent me from being able to be in a relationship with her. Since you're a woman it would make sense for her to listen to you, right?" He explained
"…so you want me to get you a girlfriend? Look I'd be willing to do it but I know nothing about both of you, how am I supposed to convince her if I don't have anything to convince her with"
"Oh that's simple, just blow this flute and say that Cary is waiting for her and she'll follow you till the end of the earth" he held out a black flute with a pink stripe down the middle out, the holes on it were heart-shaped and the mouthpiece was solid gold
"Cary?"
"Don't question it it's a pet name" he shrugged
"Well what does she look like"
"Oh you'll know," he said with a smirk
"So you taking the job or not" he leaned his shoulder on his knee which propped up his head
"Fine, where do I find her"
"Near the crystal valley, 46 kilometres to the north of this town" he waves me off
"Shit, that's far…"
