Chapter 46: An Unlikely Encounter

“Fancy seeing you here,” the voice called to me, while approaching more closely by the minute. “Thought I’d never find you.”

“Emanuel?”

“No, dearest. You should know me better than that.”

Drawing in a swift intake of breath, I scowled as I realized his identity. “Daddy. What have you done with him?”

“I never intended to do a thing to you, dear, other than love you for who you really are.”

Flashing a waft of witchy magic his way, I trembled darkly as I held myself. It took everything inside of me to exercise self-restraint.

“Liar!” I cried, quite surprising myself by falling into such a drastic character change. I eagerly remained, preparing to prance upon him at any given moment.

“What happened?” Father said in what seemed like feigned sorrow. “I could have sworn you were in love.”

“I never said that.”
