The Physical Test

Gasping for air, Felicity jerked in the white chair. She was back in the white cage, and Felicity was shaking like a leaf. Someone handed her a garbage bin, and Felicity threw up her lunch in the tiny waste bin.

Heaving, Felicity tried to calm her mind. She wanted to erase what she had seen. It was fake right? It was only a simulation. But what did it mean? Her hair was matted down to her face, and Felicity sat back with a groan.

"How are you feeling?"

Felicity opened one eye to Dr. Peter's voice. "Do you have any ibuprofen?"

Dr. Peters opened a drawer and popped the cap of the orange bottle. The woman handed the pill to Felicity with a water bottle. "You have a couple of hours before your next test. Take it easy until then."

Felicity nodded and grimaced when she tilted her head too far down. "I have a question though. Do all the tests relate to…?"

Dr. Peters turned her back, walking over to the sink in the corner. Sliding off her gloves, she washed her hands. "No. They're all generated differently, so some do while others do not. The holes that you are thinking of are called engyures which have not yet been released to the media. It is still classified information, so be careful about who you speak it to. Raures are the creatures you will be soon encountering if yet already. Be cautious around those. Another thing to note is that the morality test is also going to be virtual as was the mental test you have just taken. The physical? Not so much."

The reality of it came crashing down on Felicity at that moment. She almost laughed at the absurdity of the whole situation, but she buried it under a cough. She didn't want Dr. Peters to think she was a psychopath, because, after all, she was going to be deported out into the middle of the Pacific Ocean soon.

Felicity grimly smiled. "I hope that we get a choice to decline the invitation to a special program if we pass."

Dr. Peters paused where she was standing. "The choice isn't up to you ultimately. Although it would be a smart decision to go." The pin dropped, and Felicity froze. "However, we still don't know what is going to happen later. The future lies in your hands. I understand it is a scary time but please bear with us."

Felicity felt anger rush to her head, and she wanted to scream. She was furious at the open-ended answers and statements that didn't explain anything. A flush was rising on her neck, and Felicity pressed her lips tightly together.

Yelling at Dr. Peters wasn't going to do anything, she didn't want to act rashly Dr. Peters was only a very small piece of the whole fiasco happening.

"Rest now," Dr. Peters said. "Your physical test is up next."

Felicity didn't have to respond when Dr. Peters came at her with a needle. Felicity screeched, as the needle pierced her skin.

The tube was filled with an odd-colored substance, an amber color. It was jarring to see something that was a pop color amidst the white room. Felicity was starting to go delirious.

She fell back into the raised exam table and groaned. The white lights above were buzzing, and as the minutes went by, eventually gave into the lull of the hum.

A cold hand touched was on her forehead, and Felicity rolled away. She was so cold. Gritting her teeth, the hand above her pulled Felicity up to her feet. Felicity opened her eyes to find two young girls around her age talking above her. Felicity was lying on the ground propped up against something.

"I think she has a fever," the girl with a long braid over her shoulder murmured. "She's too flushed."

"Don't talk so loud, Leah," another girl chided. "She is fine. I don't think she is taking too well to the shot."

Leah grimaced. "That shot hurt like hell."

"Really? I didn't feel a thing." She glanced down to see Felicity looking up at them. "Oh, hi!"

Felicity forced a smile. Every part of her body hurt. But that didn't distract her from their surroundings. They were outside. The rough sand underneath her brushed against her hands, and the salty air was a pleasant surprise.

It was a startling contrast to the past places Felicity had been thrown in. A gust of wind made the little grass that there was sway, eliciting another shiver from her.

Shielding her eyes, the sky was bright blue with light, and the temperature was warm despite the cool breeze.

"Where are we?" Felicity hoarsely asked.

"I think we are on an island. The beach is further down to your right," Leah answered.

A large commotion sounded to their right, and the girls around her sighed. Frantic voices were heard above male laughter, causing the girls around her to pause. The girl with a short bob rolled her eyes when louder raucous laughter was heard.

"Come on. Let's get you up for attendance. We didn't want you to get manhandled, so we brought you underneath a tree."
