Silent Dilemma

There was a tense moment when Leo flicked his eyes down her form as he judged her, but Felicity stood her ground. She knew that realistically, her dreams and wishes won't be able to come true, but during this time when it was just them two, she wanted to let him know where her mind was at.

Leo's eyes drifted off into the distance, and she followed his gaze out to the horizon that was dropping. The silence was enough for her to understand that there were no words needed to express the dilemma that was hardening in their hearts.

The orange and pink sky with the white clouds scattered throughout the sky in a lovely form that was awe-inspiring and graceful would soon turn a dark apocalyptic red overhead to announce the arrival of the unnatural creatures that had abruptly shown up in the world.

Blinking her eyes, she dearly wished that their circumstances were different, and she clenched her fists to the ground wondering if the answer was truly to eradicate all the raures. If it was, she knew that she didn't have much to look forward to, only a bleak future ahead of her.

However, protecting her family and her loved ones around was the only goal close to her heart. It didn't matter if she didn't get the chance to experience what a normal girl her age would experience now that the world was on the verge of crashing and burning.

Leo ran a hand through his hair. "We should have stuck around a little longer to see if we could have found our affinity weapons."

"I don't think that they were there," Felicity said while leaning her head on her arm. "Normally, you would be able to feel it. You know what I mean?"

Leo sighed. "I do."

Felicity ran a hand up her arm that shivers recalling the feeling it was like to be in the presence of her affinity weapon. It was a blessing and a curse since it was both comforting and deadly. Wielding the sword was tough at first until she got comfortable with it, and it felt as though she was holding a medium as light as water.

The dark red stains were starting to creep into the orange in the sky although it was camouflaged well with the harmonious pink and orange painting announcing the arrival of what was to come.

She had mentioned earlier in the passing that she knew that they were near water although did not know how far. However, if the red was reaching there already, they had to be near a body of water.

They could be anywhere along the coast of the country considering that Obrien literally picked them up from around the states with no care in the world where their families or lives had been going.

Felicity brought her head into her hands and closed her eyes, praying that the time away was only a dream. Leo touched her shoulder with much animosity that Felicity blinked up at him while raising her eyebrow.

There was so much more that she wanted to say, but she didn't want to push too much. They clearly had different goals and outlooks on life. She hated the thought of going into battle. It had to be for last resort. Yet, she knew that if she were called to do so, she would give everything that she had.

His lips flattened, displeasure clear on his face, and he pointed far into the distance. "Look."

Felicity followed his eyes, and she choked. "Holy moly."

There were helicopters in the sky that could be heard from miles away. The blue sky was overshadowed by the grey masses floating in the sky. She squinted to count the choppers in the sky.

There were three coming in their direction, charging forth. She saw that they were armed with guns that were out as well, and she hoped that they weren't loaded for them.

Felicity felt her stomach bottom out. "Shoot. What are we going to do?"

"The helicopters might not be associated with Obrien and the government. It may just be flying through," Leo reasoned.

"We can't take that chance," Felicity muttered.

"Tough luck," he answered and started digging around his bag for another item. Leo took out a slim black cylinder and shook it around making Felicity stand up immediately.

"We can't set off another bomb," Felicity shot out. "Look at the state that we're in with all of these burns. We don't need a forest fire on our hands."

Leo rubbed a hand down his face. "We… are going to have to go with them."

Her brows pinched together. What? Then what was the point of escaping the literal doom box? "Absolutely not."

"We don't have any option anymore, Felicity. We might be over a hundred miles before we can find shelter or even food. We'll die."

Annoying as it was, Leo was right. There might be a gas station twenty miles from here or a thousand. It was not a risk they could take. She was exhausted, her body crying out to her, especially her legs.

She wouldn't be able to walk tomorrow, but there was a chance there wouldn't even be a normal tomorrow. She didn't have the reins to her life, but then again no one did either. Maybe she really was delirious when she answered, "Okay."

Leo nodded once decisively and twisted the black cylinder much to her surprise, and just as she ducked to the ground for cover screaming, a bright light shot into the sky without warning. Her body was going on autopilot when she tried to get as far as she could despite getting caught off guard.

Her heart plummeted to her stomach when she got down for cover only for no explosion to come. Felicity flinched from the sound, a spark then a loud pop. The bright red light burst into the blue and fizzled out as ashes fell on them.

Her mouth fell open as she stared up at him incredulously. "Jesus. Give a girl a warning."

Leo covered his eyes as he looked up above. "Looks like they got our message."
