Pin of Friend or Foe

Felicity sighed and watched silently as the helicopters came closer. The rotor blade was spinning fast, and the buzzing sound was starting to get deafening. Her heart was pounding fast, and Felicity didn't know if they had just signed their name up for impending doom.

Melissa woke up beside them in shock with her hands grasping her clothes tightly and gasping for breath. Felicity squatted down to let her know that she was alright, and Melissa's tense shoulders started to relax yet her face was crumpled up in pain, and Felicity helped her stand while running soothing circles into her shoulder.

The first of the helicopters landed a few feet from them, the wind from the chopper making her hair swirling around her face in a frenzy and pulling at the fabric of her clothing.

Random objects started scattering, making little small rocks nearby fly away with some loose blades of grass taking a moment to enjoy their free joy ride in the air before landing elsewhere.

The door of the cabin of the helicopter slid open with more force than it needed, and Felicity held her breath, not wanting to admit the fear that was rendering her speechless. Melissa tucked her body behind hers while Leo watched with burning eyes.

A woman with a lovely dark skin tone and intricate braids walked out with a Kevlar vest holding a crossbow encrusted with vibrant emeralds. She pulled an arrow back with a swift hand, and Felicity's jaw dropped as an arrow flung towards them with her dodging on instinct, almost tumbling into Leo.

Leo grabbed Felicity's hips to keep her stationed nearby his side. Felicity slanted a suspicious glare at the woman and plastered a smile on when more soldiers with hostile and tangible energy walked out.

"Hello!" Felicity called. "We need some help."

The woman drew another arrow straight at them, and Felicity held eye contact with the woman, her green orbs unwavering before the line went slack. "You all unidentified trespassers on private land.

She choked down her sarcastic barb and wondered how much to tell the woman and gave her a cold smile. If both she and Obrien worked with the government, did she also know that they were kidnapped? "Well. What a way to greet someone."

The woman returned the smile sharply. "You all are in the middle of a coastal prairie that is government lands. I would like to ask to see your IDs."

Felicity took off the badge around her neck and handed it over to her. The woman raised the badge into the sunlight and gave it back to her while taking both Leo's and Melissa's. "Nice to meet you all. I assume you all are done with the verification process?"

Felicity's guard immediately went up. "You know Obrien?"

"Yes. We work in different divisions. The real question is how you all got out here," the woman said.

Felicity paused. "I don't see the right the government has to force young individuals to such work."

"We all have a bound duty to serve our country," the woman slowly emphasized.

Felicity held in a tight breath. This woman seemed just as bad as Obrien. "We didn't sign any papers and were brought against our will."

There was a long pause. Felicity was trying to read the woman's body language, but she looked unbothered. She was on her last strand, but Leo was pinching her side making send him a glare which he gladly returned.

She could read what he was screaming in his crystal blue eyes loud and clear. For her not to be rash and wait for them to help. But Felicity couldn't stand for getting rescued by people who were bound to lock them up later.

The other soldiers had their guns ready in hand without pointing at them, but they might as well have been with all their eyes on them watching their every move. Every time Felicity twitched, it made the soldier's around hesitated.

Yet, she did understand where Leo was coming from. There was no way out of wherever this place was without the government station to help. She glanced at the uniform of the soldiers, but it was quite standard which didn't help to identify if they were friend or foe.

Melissa was quivering while standing on her own, and Felicity knew that they were in a dire situation with a great need for medicine and rest. There wasn't much they could do about their condition except go along with it which was what Leo was trying to point out silently.

Felicity studied the jeweled encrusted bow at the woman's side and immediately noticed that it was similar to those of an affinity weapon which didn't make sense since the woman seemed to be well into her thirties.

There were some differences as well with the way the bow was stationed in the way that it was quite unnatural looking versus the odd affinity weapons which just seemed to be an entity that made sense.

Felicity shook her head as she couldn't describe it well and pinpoint exactly how it was, yet the weapon by the woman's side looked to be like an affinity but it wasn't. It looked manmade.

Happy that she found the word that she was looking for, Felicity glanced up and realized that she had zoned out for a second and tuned into what Leo was speaking to the woman who was carefully taking in his words.

"None of us had signed the papers," Leo repeated. "We blew up the building to escape. Please take us back."

"Looks like we are going to have to skip the whole process. We needed to get you all into the system, but I didn't expect Obrien to pull a stunt like this. You all have a say. Come along."

Leo put up a hand. "Hold on. Explain where we are, and where we are going."

The woman made an impatient noise but answered, "We are in a coastal prairie. We need to go to an island 100,000 km off of the small island of Lanai. A newly identified hole has opened up there."
