Frozen Dread

The hoard of raures came at them one by one, and they both fended them off as best as they could trying to take out the creatures individually rather than little damage to all the others all around.

It made for less headache and less exertion needed since the raures were quite capable of helping one another in rounding both she and Leo into a corner. Her back pressed against Leo's with her chest rising and falling in quick succession, knowing that it was going to be tough to get out of here unscathed.

She screamed when the raures in the back started to lift their tails aiming and ready to shoot, and when the steel spikes launched, Felicity ducked to the ground and dodged the shiny spikes, heaving and gripping onto Leo because if she didn't, she would lose most the confidence that was making her able to hold onto the daggers so strongly.

The claws swiped at her face, and she ducked the black nails and turned to see Leo lose his balance as the ground beneath started to shake. She yanked his arm towards her only for him to push her to the side and stab the charging creature in the center.

His dagger came down unhesitatingly, and he shook his head. "Felicity. We don't have time to be scared. You of all people should know that. You did well on the tests I'm sure. Keep that momentum going."

Felicity cut down on the creature to the right. She didn't want to be scolded for being a normal person in her situation. "The test was only my safety net."

"You shouldn't need a safety net to fight for your life. To fight for my life."

Felicity brushed the sweat from her forehead. "I'm selfish, aren't I? To not want to be a part of any of this."

Leo grunted as he pushed back on one of the creature's attacks. "Ignorant."

"Of course, you have nothing good to say of me. You could try to be understanding."

Leo spun around, and he slipped behind her when he saw an opening. He took off running into the night, his dark shadow following him. Felicity turned to see where he was going only to see another hoard come their way. Choking down her cry of distress, she trailed after Leo after she was able to find the next open window when the raures would part to the sides.

Breaking into a sprint, she pumped her legs and chased after Leo. He was taking advantage of his long legs, and Felicity couldn't catch up to him. She stopped to massage her pulsing calves underneath a tall tree after she took a long look at her surroundings, and she ducked low when a shadow pounced over her.

Felicity shoved her dagger into the chest above, and she breathed out a deep breath as ashes fluttered to the ground. Dropping her hand, she continued her trail behind Leo, who was unconsciously burying his tracks with the sand slowly falling back to what it once was. At this point, she was going to be left behind.

Felicity cut down the tall weeds furiously, trying to force her way through the barrier that the jungle has made naturally. The greenery led to the familiar pathing from earlier, right before she and Leo entered the jungle which meant that the helicopter should be up ahead and where Medina had sent the warning signal earlier.

The ground shook harder then which was nothing new, and she leapt to the other side and found the nearest tree, and clung on to it for dear life as the earth split apart. As the earth pulled apart, there was the cacophony of the splitting trees and the roaring ocean as it poured into the new cavern created.

Felicity hoisted herself up onto the branch, gritting her teeth as she pulled up her weight and wrapped her thigh over the branch to straddle it. Finding her footing, she walked its length carefully to try and to the other side that hasn't been affected by the shifting land yet with her heart in her thought.

Her boots had the grip needed to make it through it, however, one wrong step at a slightly off angle would either make her twist her ankle as she tried to recover from her fall or fall deep into the hole of the earth.

She slammed her finger as she jumped through the clearing onto the thick tree trunk in a frantic last move to escape the breaking island. Rolling onto her back, she glanced up at the sky to catch her breath and saw the chopper lifting high into the air.

Awareness shot into her bones, and Felicity squinted and saw people inside. Did that mean that Leo had left her without going back? What was he even thinking? Felicity felt her eyes start to tear up from frustration. It was they live fighting, or they die trying. They were intentionally leaving her here?

"Hey!" Felicity screamed. "I'm still here!"

The helicopter was gaining height, and Felicity had no choice but to continue running. She couldn't even believe what was happening to her at the moment. It was then that all the flashbacks of her life that she wanted to keep near and close to her heart came forth, and the sudden need to just stop made all her steps heavier.

But she couldn't give up. Not yet. Blowing out harsh breaths, her lungs were starting to seize up, but she kept her legs going. She needed to work on her cardio if she wanted to survive the circumstances she often found herself in. Her strides skidded to a stop when she saw the terrain in front of her.

The rocks started to fall on her, pelting on her suit like hail from the tall ledge of the ground above her. She covered her face, trying to avoid the damage from the small rocks, and dread filled her body when she realized that there was no way out.
