Meet the Horizon

The wind continued to make a ruckus on the inside of the helicopter, and Medina rushed over to Tatum to reach into a bag stationed at the pilot's left-hand side and ripped out a bag from within the messenger bag.

The trim pouch that Medina withdrew was a tiny drawstring fabric cloth, and she pulled one ribbon to the side to expose a crystal similar to the ones that the affinity weapons were like when they were compressed.

"An affinity weapon?" Felicity asked.

"No," Medina answered shortly not bothering to elaborate.

Medina grabbed her jeweled encrusted bow that was hung up to the side and threw up the crystal in the air for a moment before her bow shattered the crystal. The crystals cracked and then shattered into tiny sparkling rain, slicing Medina's hands.

She didn't even flinch, and Felicity was about to reach out to her in worry when Leo grabbed Felicity's waist, Felicity winced and watched the blood drip down Medina's arm. The crimson blood dripped onto the ground, bright in contrast to the dull bearings of the helicopter.

They needed to speed up the time. If they took too long, the energy would only get bigger and cause more havoc. Felicity didn't know what Medina's plan was for closing the endure, but Medina's show of bloodshed may hold an important part of that plan.

Leo didn't know how to react either, but his sword was already out and ready to fight if anything were to go awry. Melissa was watching carefully with a weary spark in her eyes.

She slung her weapon across her back now that it was safely covered to take the pressure off of her hands and tapped Leo's arm to do the same. Felicity knew the strain of the affinity weapon, but she could see Leo's veins starting to pop out from his arms and hands knowing the stress and toll the body took by carrying the weapons.

Felicity leaned off of Leo, who was her only solid pillar of support, and slowly went over Medina. She met the hazel eyes of Medina, and she tilted her head when Medina stuck out her hand.

Felicity placed her hand into Medina's not knowing what she was asking only for Medina to roughly shove the broken shards into her skin. Felicity jerked her hand back and clutched it to her chest from the pain with a yelp. Leo yanked Felicity to the side.

"What do you think you're doing?" he demanded.

"If she wanted to help, this would be a way to," Medina calmly responded.

"What do the shards do?" Felicity asked while her brows came together from the uncomfortable pain burning her palm.

"You will figure it out, Medina said as she cleaned off a few of the arrows that were lying to the side.

"Right now isn't the best time to be cryptic," Felicity pushed. "What is it?"

Shaking her hand now that the burning sensation was spreading, Felicity peered down to her palm to see how the sharp crystals shredded her skin letting some of her beaded blood start to pucker out.

Medina threw her case of arrows around her back and turned back over her shoulder to reiterate her statement from before.

"You should know if I need help. Or rather, when."

There was nothing left to say, and Medina jumped out with one gesture of so long with her fingers from her forehead upwards only to get drawn up into the sky where they couldn't see further.

Seeing how Medina jumped only to get swallowed by the engyure was frightening, and Felicity screamed out for her. Melissa covered her mouth with a gasp while leaning over to the side to watch Medina, but Leo reached over to stop Melissa from going too far.

"We can't just let her go off on her own!" Felicity panicked.

"She has experience in doing these. Our lives are put at stake every single day," Tatum said trying to placate her.

"That doesn't mean that we can just leave her out there like that!"

Felicity ran and stuck her head out the door knowing that Medina was long gone, but Leo grabbed her arm before she could jump whipping her back inside with so much force, that she practically tumbled back into the safety of the helicopter cabin.

"What are you doing?" Leo hissed.

Felicity tried to shrug his grip off. "I've been in an engyure before. You pulled me out of one, remember? Trust me."

Leo pulled back and pinched the bridge of his nose. "No. Didn't you promise me?"

Felicity grinned. Got him. Of course, she knew that if they both were in it then they were in it together. It may backfire now, but when they were together, it all miraculously turned out well.

But she also had to know. It was driving her insane. She wanted to see with her own eyes how the creatures in there came to be or anything in general. All the truth resided in there.

Her heart was in her throat, but she inched her way closer to the edge.

"Ms. Clarke," Tatum drew out. "You should..."

She dipped her chin down at Leo and jumped out with the horror on Melissa's face doubling. Leo tried to grab her, his frosty eyes widening, but she was already gone.

Their fingers brushed for a split moment only for her to be taken up by the engyure. Screaming, Felicity flipped through the air. Her vision of the world was spinning, but it was absolutely beautiful with the sun rising.

At the moment, it felt as though her body was free grappling through the air, and she spread out her arms holding onto the sword tightly as the horizon changed. Pale blues and pinks were pretty, but vibrant purples and greens suddenly became jarring.

Felicity's jaw dropped when she saw the image before her. She had a feeling that she wasn't truly inside the engyure yet, just hovering right above it since she could see Medina still going down into the engyure at a different speed than she was, however around Medina were frozen crystals surrounding her.

Looking up in frustration, Felicity saw the swirling engyure to her side. Beauretically, on the other side would be the Atlantic Ocean. It would be bad to close the engyure if she wasn't on the other side yet, right?

Felicity pressed a hand to her head to try and alleviate the pounding headache that was starting up from the disarray of colors. It would have been better if Medina explained her plan beforehand.
