Felicity could feel the ambiance that the storm was bringing over to the ocean with the already dark waters turning more black in the sense of getting lost in another world that people still haven't fully discovered yet.
Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, Felicity spat out the salty residue in her mouth. She still didn't know if Medina was truly open to answering questions, but she would try her shot considering that there was one large elephant that was still waiting to be asked.
With a long sigh, she turned her eyes to the sky. "Tell me. How did the engyure close? I don't remember much at all, but I know that we fell once the arrow broke the rune."
"It's a complicated matter," Medina trailed off. "We still don't know the best or most efficient way to close engyures since there seem to be multiple options."
"Multiple options? How is that? Anyone who goes into an engyure can close it then?"
"Not exactly," Medina answered. "Those with affinity weapons can only close an engyure with a gem that is found in the engyure that is classified as moisengravite crystals."
"So, the crystals were a huge component, correct?"
Medina nodded. "Yes. It is hard to harvest the crystals, and I am not the researchers doing so. I only hear minimal information, and that information that I do hear, I act upon it."
Felicity frowned knowing that Medina was likely the one carrying out most of the orders than those who were staying behind ina safe place to watch how everything all turned out. Lots of people were putting their lives at stake, and now it was soon her duty to do the same.
Medina continued her explanation. "Another method to close an engyure entails getting a bustling machine in there which arguably could be one of the hardest parts of the task. There is still much to be learned about closing enygures, however, affinity weapons seem to be the most efficient."
"The affinity weapon must do the damage, yes?"
"That is correct along with blood that must be present. The perk with the blood is do the the fact we have found evidence for blood being somewhat of a factor for maneuvering inside an engyure since I'm sure you have seen, the engyure keeps us suspended in the air with the ever-changing gravity."
"What?" Felicity expressed confusion at the thought that blood was an important factor to it all. "Is it only affinity weapon wielders or anyone?"
"Only those who can activate an affinity weapon which makes them the prime example as to why we are put to doing such a task since we have the ability to somewhat be able to move more freely."
"That is absurd..." Felicity muttered. "Isn't it odd how the government says that young adults to teenagers are the ones that can wield an affinity weapon? If that was the case, why are you able to do, Medina?"
There was a long pause on Medina's end, but Felicity could see the flash of pain on Medina's face. "What the researchers did to me wasn't natural. It was a dreadful succession of experiments conducted to see who could touch the affinity weapons that were found. Specialized divisions were drawn first, and many lost their lives being told that it was safe."
Felicity sighed with the weighted feeling on her chest sinking even lower. She didn't expect much from deranged humans, and with everything that they did now, she knew that they needed to tread lightly. Not that they would even get the chance to do so if they don't escape.
"And when did they figure out that it was a younger individual who needed to wield the weapon?" Felicity asked with dread.
"Children were tested with their fates sealed. All age ranges were experimented with along with various factors that the researchers were also messing around with, so in the end, it was settled with young adults and teenagers," Medina said flatly.
"High schoolers were the easiest to implement such a large ordeal upon, so the government started there first. I would like to stress that no one survived until they figured out the armored suits that you and I are wearing now."
Felicity processed Medina's words, letting the information become concrete before asking, "No one survived?"
Medina shook her head. "The target age lasted the longest. What we are experiencing now is a miracle. Let's just hope that there will be no after-effects."
"There better not be," Felicity muttered. "But we can't do anything to control that now."
"Exactly. The best that we can do now is to eliminate the raures that are becoming a threat to society along with closing the engyures to ensure that fewer people be affected."
"That's insane," Felicity breathed following Medina's logic that she had come to terms with. In the end, she did wish that she be able to spend her last moments with her family, but now she was seriously questioning if she would even be able to get that luxury with her battling fate.
If the government could train a large number of young adults and teenagers with their affinity weapons, they might be able to get an edge with the catastrophe that has the possibility of ending the world as everyone knows it.
It was saddening to admit, but Felicity would have to give in to the fate that had unraveled itself before her because there was no choice. So many lives were lost, and Felicity would hate for their efforts to be wasted not even on their own accord.
Felicity paused. "The crystals harvested also sound questionable."
"Moisengravites were found in the engyures after an expedition conducted by research. It is similar to the musgravite crystals found here on the Earth hence the name. Contrary to what you think, some smaller engyures close on their own as well. The energy found inside the runes is still unknown, so that is why the runes need to break along with what we had said.
Felicity's head was starting to hurt trying to piece it all together. She was stepping into territory that she knew took eons for even the most intelligent people to figure out. Stressing on if geniuses could even crack the case. "It seems as though the engyure breaks the rules of gravity."
Medina shrugged. "I don't have the credentials to confirm any theories, but I do believe that an engyure can bend space and time since gravity is the curvature of spacetime."
