It took a bit before they were reunited with the rest of the group since there were a lot more people than just Medina and Tatum luckily. The swim was exhausting, but it didn't matter. She wasn't going to fail now. She looked up into the sky again and grimaced when she thought about her family.
It had been too long since she had done so, and she felt the crushing guilt for leaving them without reason. Now look at where she was at. She could tell that her parents would be worried out of their minds and angry at her for not following their words.
Felicity sighed in relief when she saw the others coming closer to where they were at. While Felicity was breaking a sweat, Leo didn't even seem too disturbed by their situation, but she saw his underlying tension within the depth of his eyes. During these times, she realized that they meshed well together.
Melissa waved over at their crew and the others. Their bodies seemed intact and alert. Medina waved back in return. At least they all found each other. The other soldiers that were there with Medina were likely a part of the helicopter that was supposed to come in and save them.
Instead, they were condemned to a fate where they didn't even choose. But those people were trained to be selfless. In a place like this, which action would be considered selfless or selfish? For some, they may be the same thing.
For the number of people in Medina, it was clear that most of the people in the helicopter didn't make it. Felicity didn't want to think about how each one succumbed to their death. It was clear that the soldiers with Medina were familiar with raures, so the help that came truly was just help in numbers.
The soldiers were cold, but the one to the side was extremely tough-looking making a chill run down Felicity's back. Felicity knew that these soldiers must have seen a lot of carnage and hysteria from the creatures that had come out of the earth and showed no sign of stopping.
Felicity swam closer and bit out with her teeth chattering despite being happy to be reunited. The first thing that slipped out of her lips wasn't a small greeting but rather the question of action everyone was pondering about. "What are we going to do now?"
"Are you all okay?" Medina asked with her brows drawn in. "No injuries from the crash?"
Felicity was surprised that Medina had asked about their well-being, but everyone was human after all. Her brash personality tended to clash with the warm words that supposedly came out of her mouth. However, Medina did need to send them back alive as well.
"We're fine," Leo responded sliding a look over to Felicity.
She tipped her chin down subtly to let him know that she was fine before flipping the question to the rest of the crew. "How about you all?"
"We're fine. We made it out of the helicopter without being able to salvage anything else," Medina said before glancing over her shoulder to introduce everyone. "We have Ren, Ethan, and Beau here."
The soldiers didn't bother with any words of formality, but the only one who was holding a smile was Beau. Albeit one that
"You already know Melissa's condition. How are we going to get out of here?"
"I called for a rescue before we crashed. The conditions are hindering the search group," Tatum said.
"How likely do you think that message will go through?" Felicity asked.
Tatum gave them all a wry expression. "That we can hope for."
"What is your call on time?" Leo asked.
"Probably another hour," Tatum answered.
It was a big if, however. Felicity didn't even bother to voice it, because the silent thought seemed to echo throughout everyone's mind. Felicity couldn't bear to say the sarcastic words that were going through her head since they had larger things they needed to get down.
"The raures underneath us will probably not wait that long," Medina muttered.
"If they wait at all," Felicity said slowly.
They unfortunately didn't need to wait. What joy. The raures that were swimming underneath them had decided to come up for a visit. Felicity glanced down and screamed. They were advancing up. "They are coming."
The raures were spinning in a circle, coming closer to the surface. Felicity could not hold in the fear that was choking her up inside. She swung out her blade, and the others did the same. The raures had the home advantage, their bodies somehow more accustomed to water through their streamlined bodies.
In all honesty, they got extremely lucky that the raures had waited out long enough for them to get gathered together to get ready for an attack. Felicity was worried and as her lips parted, Leo put a hand on her shoulder knowing that she was pressed for words.
Felicity wiggled her legs together, feeling the water start pacing, and she glanced down seeing the eerie blue glow in the murky waters. The raures got even closer, and Felicity screamed as she jerked her sword into the raures ribcage.
The mutilated hiss made her eyes water, her heart shaken once more, and she pulled her blade up. Her sword was already heavy but pushing it through the water felt like an impenetrable task. The ocean made her swing much heavier and more exhausting.
Melissa swam on her own, throwing daggers at the raures getting out of the water, only for the raures to fall into the ocean once more. Bullets weren't doing much for the raures rather than just chopping off their limbs, and soon it was a sea of glitter in their midst.
Leo grabbed her arm just as Felicity swung her blade above water. Luckily he wasn't on the other side as the raure as it burst.
"What?" Felicity hissed.
"Calm down, Felicity," Leo said. "You're losing your cool."
"Wouldn't anyone?" Felicity muttered as she dodged an attack from a raure's spike.
Leo slashed a raure down when it was about to jump on him. "We can't have you going on a rampage like this."
Felicity rolled her eyes. "I'm fine. You should look at Medina who's dual-wielding over there. We are rather far from fine considering we are doing this full-time."
"Who wouldn't want a job like ours?"
She snickered before dropping a sarcastic remark. "You're right. Sign me up."
