Felicity ducked under the claws of a raure, getting dangerously close to the sharp, black weapons. Moving with the water was harder than it looked, but Medina was making it look easy as she was working her way through the horde of raures.
The soldiers were doing well with their teamwork, so Felicity could not let them shine either. Leo shoved his sword into the body, dragging the blade deep into the body. The heart cage of the raure was still a mystery, but while Felicity was underneath the creature, she got a good look.
The heart cage was created with a rib-like structure curving outward to create a hollow enclave for a pulsing blue heart to beat. She could see the bright light within the heart or maybe it was a light that was burning behind the heart to make it glow. The heart was moving heavily, throbbing.
Lightning flashed through the sky, and rain started to pour down. Felicity brushed her hair out of her eyes with the water pouring down on them. Thunder crashed above them. Felicity tightened her grip on her sword, blisters beginning to well.
Being in the ocean was already a mess, but the rain above made the fight even more so. Felicity still felt the spike graze her skin when a spike came flying their way where she wasn't able to get enough time to prepare for the attack.
Luckily, there was no blood, but she could tell that there would be a nasty bruise as were the claw marks that would arrange themselves like artwork on her body. She screamed out of the top of her lungs when she saw Melissa get dragged away by a raure.
"Leo!" she screamed, trying her best to get the raures off of her.
She couldn't see well from afar as the rain continued to make more of a splash on their terrain that wasn't flat, but the raure's teeth were clearly sunken into Melissa's leg causing her to flail about while still trying to maintain above the water as much as the raure was trying to drag her down.
Leo was too far from her to do anything, and Felicity's position wasn't too ideal either. She couldn't let Melissa die when she saw the trust she had for both her and Leo. Having Melissa's death on her hands, Felicity clenched her hands around her hilt once more. She knew she couldn't live with it.
The raures were screeching, the raucous noise completely horrible sounding to the human ear. The soldiers were shooting down the raures but not at a fast enough pace as they kept on piling on one another. Medina ripped off her half-gloves with her mouth and screamed, "I have no more ammo."
Medina had run out of arrows long before that, and Beau had tossed her two guns to keep the ball rolling. Ren jerked off his own ammunition jack from his gun before throwing it over to the Commander before shoving his hand into his pocket to grab a new one.
Beau shot the raure that was Melissa, and the raure hissed as he continued to try and capture his prey. Ethan slammed the butt of his gun into raure's head making the raure detach its teeth from Melissa's leg to roar over at the next target.
Ethan shot multiple rounds in the raure, but the raure wouldn't fall. Instead, the raure kept on clawing its way over to Ethan, hounding for more backup to join it, and Felicity's eyes widened as more raures appeared out of the water to heed its friend's call.
The raure kept on bobbing in and out of the water, angling its body just slightly to give way for a window to see the ribcage that was blue and pulsing with life. If only Medina had an arrow left, because bullets don't seem to do much. An affinity weapon was the most potent.
Felicity pushed the raure off of her, grunting as the tail got her stomach with enough force to make her stutter out a pained breath. "Get the ribcage!"
Melissa screamed as she launched her last mini dagger into the raure's ribcage flushing the dim blue glow away as the ocean swallowed up the ashes that had swirled upon them. It was only one out of many, forcing Felicity to tear her eyes away from the sharp claws coming her way.
Melissa tried her best to swim away, but her legs were way too weak. The blood that floated up above the top of the ocean made the water look darker as Melissa continued to lose a lot of blood. Melissa was breathing raggedly, but Ethan already had her secured around his waist.
Felicity could see the other men along with Medina losing the fight with just bullets, and Leo grabbed her arm to swing her around. Biting down on her lips, she stopped herself from looking down since the view below of what was to come was certainly a bit unsettling.
"Don't look down," Leo whispered.
Felicity's lips flattened. "I'm trying."
"If you don't like me telling you what to do, then don't do it."
She huffed out a laugh since she wasn't expecting a sarcastic response from him. "Am I finally getting underneath your skin?"
Leo whipped her around again, and Felicity bent back to do a somersault when he didn't let go of her. With her bangs of her hair in disarray, she glared over to Leo as he shoved the raure into the water making it flail about before he crushed the head of the raure.
With the show of strength that he was presenting, Felicity couldn't back down. She yanked the ribcage of the raure closer with her sword drawn in the air, but Leo took the finishing blow from her. Felicity shook her head as the shimmer flew off.
"If you got under my skin, then you would feel it."
Her brows flew up. "Oh. In what way?"
