Best for You

A flush worked her way annoyed that she could tell he was just playing with her. She didn't think that Leo would be one for crude jokes, but what could she say? It shouldn't mean anything at all, so she would treat it as such.

He didn't voice it, but she was able to connect the dots. Judging by the quirk in Leo's lips, he was pleased with the reaction that she presented. Felicity wasn't one to fan over romantic interests, so the thought of it made her laugh. Because at the end of the day, she was always unbothered.

"Thanks for your silent compliment," Felicity answered smoothly. "But I'll have to pass."

The water was sloshing between their feet as they danced through their way another fight for their lives. It was to no surprise that Medina cast them an irritated glance with her lips pursed. "You two, get your game on!"

Getting flamed for getting behind, Felicity slashed the face of the raure behind her and shook her head. "Please let me know when you stop daydreaming."

Leo smirked. "This certainly does feel like a dream."

A snicker worked her way out of her lips. "You can say that again."

"An extension of a nightmare."

Felicity choked out a laugh. She couldn't agree more. One day her daily life was suddenly disrupted by the words of people saying unbelievable news. Nothing would be able to convince her in the past that she would be doing such a thing now.

Runes dropped into the ocean as the ribcages were pierced while the dust only added to the muddle that the rain was creating. Every rune was different from the next, just slightly varying in size, color, and pattern, reminding her of a snowflake that was lost every winter.

"These runes are a mess," she muttered.

"Don't look down."

She bit back a retort. "I was making an observation."

"If you were making an observation, you would see the engyure making its way over to us right now."

Her eyes slid to the sky to see the charged sky, and chills went down her spine as the large engyure predicted to hit the island instead came over to where they were. It was an unfortunate turn of events because they weren't prepared for what was to come.

Felicity grimaced. More raures on top of the ones that were already in the water? That sounded disgusting. The rain of raures was something she didn't want to experience more than once in her lifetime.

"We need to get out of here," Leo muttered.

Felicity dipped her head down in agreement, but where was there to go? They were stranded.

"Everyone, gather together!" Medina yelled. "The engyure will hit soon."

Felicity tried her best to swim through the waters only for Leo to grab her to his side. She wrapped her legs around his waist, and he gave her a pointed look.

Felicity lifted her brows. "What? For my convenience."

His arms came around her, but he didn't answer. It was for the better as she pressed her chin to his collarbone. She could hear his labored breaths over her ear. Tightening her arms, she squeezed him tightly, not even being able to feel the warmth that came from his body underneath the suit.

Everyone came together, and Felicity dropped her legs from Leo. Melissa was placed in the center of their little circle, her daggers drawn in case they slipped in too close. They all formed a circle facing outward, doing their best to fend off the raures that were getting antsy.

The engyure loomed overhead ever closer, and the trepidation in the air became so thick, it was suffocating. The rain lessened into a sprinkle on her nose, just light enough to make their vision hazy with a mist that rose above the waves.

Felicity's neck felt hot, and she brought her fingers up to feel the side to pull away and see the red blood that coated her fingertips. The cut didn't seem deep, but the spike of a raure must have come a little too close.

As the raures came out of the water, the small wound was forgotten in Felicity's mind. Charging forth, everyone fought for their lives. Felicity was careful to get out of the way of the guns, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire.

Leo got one hit on the raure that were stacking themselves on each other, likely unintentionally making themselves taller in hindsight while Felicity finished them off with the last blow as if she was slicing a three-tier cake. Undeniably, not a cake at all.

Felicity pointed over to the side to get Ren's attention, and he sniped shot the raure that was a distance away about to launch a sharp spike their way. Medina shoved Melissa to the side when a raure was about to nip her leg and jammed the gun into the eye of the raure and shot.

Leo slammed the hilt of his affinity weapon on raure's head lunged from underneath, and Beau shot a few rounds into the raure making it burst into the shimmer. They were working with each other well. In reality, they were forced to work together. But that may be the reason why they were meshing so well.

She honestly was starting to lag behind, but Leo was picking up her slack. The engyure finally migrated to their spot, and soon it was directly over their heads. Felicity was beyond worried, and she wondered if Medina would be able to close it as she did before.

It would seem that they would have to stick out the raure over them while waiting for their rescue to come. Who knew how long that would take, but there was nothing else that they could do. She couldn't lose morale. Not yet. There was still the possibility of light at the end of the tunnel.

Felicity needed to put an end to her thoughts since they were busy. Her eyes widened to meet Leo's when they realized. As new raures landed beside them falling from the engorged engyure, the time was now.
