Conan, where did you leave your brain?

[Conan POV]

What a way to wake up huh, interrogated by your cousin's nanny's parents.

"So, you cheated on me by just one mistake? Taryn really…" Mike says acting a victim, wow the dude can act.

"Taryn is this what I raised you to be, huh, Mike was just busy with the youth choir, and you are unhappy he doesn't spend time with you," Taryn's mother says, "you know he has been trying to restore his faith to God."

Wow the plot thickens, if I wasn't involved in this mess, I would have been laughing my *ss off, but no, I am the root of this drama.

"Oh, so he is in the youth choir?" I speak.

"Shut up you, you defiled my daughter, and you will pay for it, at least Mike is still willing to marry her," her father said angrily, glaring at me, I look over to Taryn for help, but she seems to be scared to her bone.

"Conan is going to marry me," Taryn says, "What?" the whole room says in union.

Taryn looks at me nervously, "yes Conan says he will marry me and that is why he is here," she says signaling me to help her.

I sigh, seem she doesn't want to explain the situation to them, "yes, Taryn and I will be married, she is an awesome girl and Mike doesn't seem to care for her."

"Excuse me, all I did was neglect her," Mike lies, this is crazy how he is so adamant on keep Taryn even though he knows he is not even attracted to her.

"Well neglect is a sign you do not care for her; I remember having to drive her home twice one being a rainy day because you couldn't make it."

"That filthy job of hers? Huh, taking care of kids that are not hers? She is taking away time for or kids." Mike says angrily.

"You do not have kids, plus she needs the money, it is not like you have an income either, how are you supposed to survive, wait how is she supposed to survive?" I defended; this jerk seems to be way worse than I thought.

"I am going to provide for us, she should just stay at home and wait until we get kids,"

"That is enough," Taryn's father shouts angrily.

"Sir, I am sorry for yelling this man just doesn't respect your daughter," Mike says, pushing the blame to me.

I am angry, as I do like Taryn, she is a nice girl, though we have different beliefs we do get along very well, and she is open-minded to anything.

"Mike, how dare you treat my daughter like that?"

Huh, wait so this 6 ft tall bulky man is not faulting his daughter, Taryn seems to be very shocked by this.

"Father?"

"You talk about my daughter so disrespectfully; we had trusted you to take care of her and respect her," he says angrily glaring at Mike.

"And you even lied to us, we came here thinking Taryn was being unreasonable with breaking up with you for forgetting one date night, but you have been treating her badly for days, how long have you been treating our daughter like this?"

Taryn looks confused by her parents' reaction; she is looking at how they are condemning Mike shocked.

"Mr. Duff, I will…..." Mike tries to explain but is cut off.

"You will what, she has already moved on let her be," oh, oh, this sounds like a problem, I am in trouble.

"Father." Taryn says in a low tone.

"Why didn't you tell us how this person was treating you?" her father asked, he looked so disappointed.

"Father was already disappointed when I left the church, I didn't want to disappoint father again," he widens his eyes in shock, I feel so out of place, am I even supposed to hear this?

"But I told you I would love you even if you chose a different path, I still love you with your decisions Taryn," he says sadly.

"But I didn't want to disappoint father again, at least if I had married a man father approved of you would be proud of me."

"But Taryn, you do not have to be with a man that leave you stranded in the rain for us to be proud," her mother says, quite a different reaction from what I expected.

"Thank you," she says, Mike is angry, "so you are going to give your daughter to this pervert, he doesn't have a job like me that I know for sure."

Well, he is right about one thing, I do not have a job at the moment, but I have investments that give me enough money to not work all my life.

"It is not about having a job Mike, it is about how you treat her," her mother defends.

"And I do have a job, I work in investments," not necessarily a lie.

Taryn sighs before saying, "mom about Conan and I marrying…."

"We will get married rather later than you want since we still have to know each other,"

Yes, I am dumb, she was about to deny wanting to marry her, freeing me from the shackles of having to lie to her parents about our relationship, and I blew it, she looked at me shocked.

"Oh…. It is okay, I never introduced myself, Gray Duff, Taryn's father, and that is my wife Laura," he introduced, Taryn is glaring at me, I feel my parms get sweaty.

"Conan Beckett, nice to meet you."

"Beckett? Like Beckett, Beckett?" her mother asks in fear.

"Yes, Beckett, Beckett," I say nervously.

"Oh…. How did the two of you meet?" her father asks skeptically.

"Conan a word," Taryn says dragging me away, "father mother let me talk to him for a bit.

She takes me to the bathroom before she starts scolding me.

"Are you out of your mind? Like I was about to tell them the truth why would you do that?"

"I didn't want you have to disappoint them by telling them you let a man in your house who was not your boyfriend or fiancé okay," I defended, "you sounded sad telling them why you stayed with Mike, and I just didn't want you to go through another embarrassing moment."

"Wow, Conan Beckett has a heart, you know you saying you would marry me is worse right? Oh, you really are a bad luck charm."

"Oh, come on we will find a way out," I say sheepishly.

"We? We? No Conan you will find a way out of this, I wanted to get you out of this, and you squeezed yourself in, you will squeeze yourself out." She says before storming out.

Was that a dumb idea, yes definitely, will I admit that no way in hell. But there is always a way out, we can pretend to be in love for a while before breaking up, there is a way out.
