(Regina POV)
He smirked, and I could sense the mischievousness behind it as he nodded his head.
"But what if I don't agree to it?" He asked with a daring smile on his face.
I raised my chin. "Then we would have no choice but to tell the press about how you killed our people out of selfishness. You killed innocent souls just because you so badly wanted a building in the land we feed from."
"Press? Building? Innocent?" He chuckled. "You really have yourself believing in those crabs. Do you think your people are innocent? I almost forgot the shenanigan you pulled last time and how you caused me a scar."
"If I did then it is a shame that it cleared so easily, besides that's why they call it a scar. Do you really think we had a choice? You came in here on short notice just to tell us to relocate to nowhere in particular, and then you went ahead to take it by force, just so you can build a huge and mighty tower on this land."
His gaze darkened as I continued, but I failed to notice it because of how angry I was. He really thought we ought to thank him for taking everything from us. He really thought highly of himself.
However, I almost swallowed my tongue when he stalked towards me slowly. He narrowed his gaze at me.
"And who told you that I want to build a tower here?" He asked, his deep voice resounded in my ears.
"Who told me? Everything speaks of it. What other purpose would there be other than to build your company here?"
"You shouldn't say things you know nothing of," he warned, and I immediately shut my mouth.
"Now, going back to our discussion, I accept whatever you said, but I'll need the papers of the land, the original copies, and also I need your people to get rid of the crops they planted themselves. My people have so much on their plate already."
The guts of this man. How dare he demand such nonsense? After we stood under the scorching sun, he still wanted us to remove everything we planted because his people were too busy.
"With that said, I hope you can sign a contract and the rules to follow so no one branches."
"A contract? And when are we signing it?"
"My assistant would prepare one and once he is through, you can come for the signing." He said and looked around.
"Are you sure the rest would agree with you on this?"
"That's none of your business, and it's my father's land, after all." My remark made him smile weakly.
"Well if you say so, my assistant would get in touch with you-wait, do you even have a phone?" He asked and I shook my head.
He sighed and beckoned for his assistant to come over. He pulled something from his assistant's suit pocket. "Here, take this and use it. I will communicate with you once everything is prepared." He said, and turned around, not sparing me a second look.
I stood there unmoving with the phone he tossed over in my hands. He really gave me his assistant phone, or was I wrong?
I quickly checked it once they were out of sight. There wasn't a single number on the phone, but the phone felt so good to hold.
I glanced at it before walking back. I saw my aunt and uncle Rico standing at the entrance of the small house we managed to build.
"How did it go?" Rico was the first to ask.
"I really don't know," I said.
"So, are we really going to get kicked out from our place?" A lady asked with a worried and conflicted look.
I shook my head. "I spoke with him not to send us away."
They all seemed surprised for a minute, unable to say a word as they blinked their eyes, before someone burst out for joy. The rest joined in as they were sighing in relief, but uncle Rico's face was furrowed, and he was looking confused instead of happy and so was my aunt.
"And?" He asked. The rest stopped with a frown when they heard him.
I lowered my head. "In exchange, that I marry him and give him the original copies."
"What? Did you agree?" He asked next.
I nodded and they all gasped. "I really had no choice. My uncle would be sad if we lost this land after he fought so hard for it. He said we all can stay, but you just have to harvest what you planted sooner, like very soon that it could tomorrow. I'm sorry, I know this isn't what you expected but if you look at the bright side, we'll still have our home with us, and I'm sure-" before I could complete my speech, a slap landed across my face and I held my cheek in shock as I stared at my aunt who had a disgusted expression.
"You really are repulsive, not only are you selfish but also heartless, and I don't want to ever hear your uncle's name from that mouth of yours. Not only did you kill him, but you also took our opportunity after I begged you, Regina, I begged you more than twice to help stop what was happening, and I even told you to negotiate it with a land, but you refused and now look. My husband is dead because of you! You killed them! You killed everyone just for what? Just so you can end up with a rich man and expect us to call you our savior. You're evil and I wish you never existed. You want us to be glad that we're going to destroy what we planted, and you actually want us to thank you."
"Aunty, that's not true… I swear I did it purely because of the children."
She scoffed. "What a liar, You're no different from your father. Now, get out of here and never return. You can't hear me? I said get out now! Leave here because we don't need you. You killed my husband, so you're no different from them," she looked at my hand and saw the phone. "Give me that. So, you intend to use this."
She snatched it from me. "Whore!!" She exclaimed as she smashed the phone on the ground harshly. "You're a disgrace!" She spat, but my eyes were on the broken device on the floor. The hope had just been shattered to the ground broken.
